Well, we have our ubuntugis packages on qgis.org (using the same build system
as all other our builds instead of launchpad).

It's not really clear what in QGIS causes it and it crashes rather deep in Qt
1.6 - in new animation stuff, we don't actually use ourselves. So it might be
even a Qt bug.
