Why would you want to do that? That line means "start JOSM in the background, 
then exit". If you exit the shell, you also kill all its children processes -- 
and josm is one of them.

You might want to do "josm && exit" instead -- i.e. start josm and, as soon as 
it exits (with a 0 status), also close the shell. If you want to disregard the 
status of JOSM (it might exit with a non-0 status in case of a crash), use 
"josm; exit".

Closing the bug -- if your case is not explained above, feel free to reopen 
(an maybe give more info).
