Package: libhdf5-serial-dev Version: 1.8.4-patch1-2 Severity: important When trying to link a shared library using libhdf5, I receive the following message: /usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/libhdf5.a(H5.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `H5_debug_g' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /usr/lib/libhdf5.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
I tried rebuilding the package, specifying -fPIC in DEBOPT, and it helps. On i386 it is unneeded. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libhdf5-serial-dev depends on: ii libhdf5-serial-1.8.4 1.8.4-patch1-2 Hierarchical Data Format 5 (HDF5) ii libjpeg62-dev [libjpeg- 6b-16.1 Development files for the IJG JPEG ii zlib1g-dev 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - development libhdf5-serial-dev recommends no packages.
