[DebianGIS-dev] We need this josm plugin webkitimageqt

2010-02-12 Thread jamesmikedup...@googlemail.com
Hi all,

I have been fighting for getting webkitimageqt into debian for a while.

I can understand that no one is really interested in the package,
but it is needed to use josm properly. If you don't have it, you
cannot use josm properly.

The problem that I see is the merkaator is a great tool that is
competing with josm,
and that the same kde team is responsible for this 100 line qt program
in theory,
but no one is really interested in helping out the josm.

The ITP bug report is here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=569040

The git repo is here :
http://github.com/h4ck3rm1k3/webkitimageqt

The package builds and I cleaned up the packaging a bit.

Please approve me on ailloth for the kde packaging team or tell me the
team that is responsible for this.

thanks,

mike

This is not true: without this program you can't use, only in some
cases, one of the many plugins of Josm. Sure, it can be annoying, but
it's quite different from not using Josm at all.

I think it would be better to build it within the josm-plugins package,
as an additional binary package. Unfortunately, josm and josm-plugins
are bothering us quite a lot with license-related issues. When I'll have
the time to work again on it, I'll consider building a new binary
package for webkit-image.

Meanwhile, if you want to help for this, you're welcome!

Thanks, Giovanni.

Ok,
I will build a plugins package with all plugins individually .

what about :
 josm-plugin-webkitimageqt
 josm-plugin-validator

and two virtual packages :
 josm-plugins-restricted
 josm-plugins-unrestricted

etc.. patches to github, I can host them on tuxfamily as well,
would be great to become a developer. I have been wanting to do that anyway.

Hi.

Such a package already exists (josm-plugins), even if it has to face
many copyright and license related issues. If you ask, pkg-grass admins
can give you write access on the git, so you can work on it with me and
David.

 what about :
  josm-plugin-webkitimageqt
  josm-plugin-validator

Uhm, from where does validator come up?

 and two virtual packages :
  josm-plugins-restricted
  josm-plugins-unrestricted

Why should we have these plugins? What should they do?

May I suggest you to start watching out what is already present in
Debian (packages josm and josm-plugins), before planning too many new
things?

Giovanni.
