I just tried a new java release, 1.6.0 update 2, but the generated
package isn't installable. This is my screen dump:

Create debian package:
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
dh_installchangelogs
dh_installdocs
dh_compress
dh_fixperms
Can you not install the sun-java6-* packages? I'm pretty certain
java-package is now depreciated in favour of the packaged JREs.

No, its not (completely) deprecated. It supports more then just SUN JDK.

I am currently using etch, with our package backported. I will try to
