Bug#884377: Missing the sejda-console

2017-12-14 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: libsejda-java

Severity: wishlist

Hi,

according to https://github.com/torakiki/sejda/wiki/Getting-Started
sejda comes with a console for command line use, and I would have
expected this in this package, or in a separate package. Is there a good
reason for its absence?

Thanks,
Joachim

thanks for checking that, I did not look at open bugs. In this
particular case (non-free but distributable file lying around in the

is to backports, nothing gets worse this way. I’ll try to remember to
update the package when a fixed packages enters testing.

Re: Backport of ant?

2012-02-11 Thread Joachim Breitner
Dear Ludovic,

Am Samstag, den 11.02.2012, 00:36 +0100 schrieb Ludovic Claude:
It looks like either src/main/org/apache/tools/ant/types/resolver/ is
missing from your source tarball (are you using the correct tarball for
 ant 1.8.2?)

it’s there, the source tarball was obtained with apt-get source.

or - more likely - libxml-commons-resolver1.1-java does not
 provide /usr/share/java/xml-resolver-1.2.jar.

Indeed:
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/all/libxml-commons-resolver1.1-java/filelist
vs.
http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/all/libxml-commons-resolver1.1-java/filelist

If that is the case, then
you can work around this issue by removing the mh_installjar line(s)
which fail, as I don't think that fop uses the xmlcatalog task
provided by ant-apache-resolver in its build.

well, if I upload fop to squeeze-backports, I’d also have to upload ant,
and I don’t think I should upload a version with less functionality than
the same version in testing.

So I need to backport xml-commons-resolver as well, will do that later.

Maybe you want to bump the build dependency to (= 1.2-7) in ant if it
does not build with the version in squeeze.

Thanks for your feedback,
Joachim

Backport of ant?

2012-02-10 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi ant maintainers,

I’m trying to backport fop to squeeze, and it needs a newer ant (and
xmlgraphics-commons). The build dependencies of ant-1.8.2-4 are
fulfillable in squeeze, but it fails to build correctly:

mh_installjar -pant-optional -l src/etc/poms/ant-apache-resolver/pom.xml
build/lib/ant-apache-resolver.jar /usr/share/ant/lib/ant-apache-resolver.jar
Cannot find the jar to install: build/lib/ant-apache-resolver.jar
make: *** [install/ant-optional] Error 2
dpkg-buildpackage: error: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit
status 2

Full build log is attached.

Should I just not install the ant-apache-resolver.jar file, i.e. remove
that line from debian/rules, or what is going on here?

Oh, and if someone else feels like backporting this, I’d be very
grateful :-)

Thanks,
Joachim

2012-01-08 Thread Joachim Breitner
Dear Mathieu,

happy new year to you too.

I only had a rough look. There are some parts that sound theoretically
problematic, but these terms also appear in the files already shipped in
Debian, in texlive-base
(e.g. /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/generic/hyph-utf8/patterns/hyph-hsb.tex) so
I’d not worry too much.

I’ll commit it later today (if it turns out that I have write
permission).

   files in debian/ is fine.
 * At build time, extract the zipfile and move (or link) the hyphenation
patterns to hyph. This will build the hyphenation jar file during the
   fop build.
 * Install the jar with fop and use it automatically and by default.

This is sub-optimal, as we are not packing the “real” sources from
http://tug.org/svn/texhyphen/trunk/hyph-utf8/tex/generic/hyph-utf8/patterns/tex/
but maybe it is ok.

If it is not, then one has to assemble some files from the above SVN
repository, e.g. the scripts from
http://tug.org/svn/texhyphen/trunk/hyph-utf8/source/generic/hyph-utf8/
and http://tug.org/svn/texhyphen/trunk/collaboration/source/offo/
and then take the .tex files from
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/generic/hyph-utf8/patterns and generate the
.tex files at fop build time.

I’d really appreciate to have working fop-hyphenation out-of-the-box
with wheezy, and I’m happy to help.

Greetings,
Joachim

FOP Hyphenation patterns in Debian?

2010-11-29 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi FOP maintainers,

FOP does not ship hyphenation patterns due to perceived license problems
by upstream¹. On the other hand, Debian ships at least some hyphenation
patterns in the texlive-base package, so it seems that we do not see a
problem here.

If that is the case we should ship a fop package with hyphenation
patterns included. The question is how to generate and ship them. Here
is the workflow: The sources seem to be included in the texlive source,
in the CTAN hyph-utf8 package. Their SVN includes a conversion script to
turn them into XML files². These XML files have to be compiled by FOP³.

Now the texlive-base-2009 package does not include the necessary files
(e.g. patterns/txt/hyph-af.lic.txt) to generate the XML files, so they
can not easily built within the texlive package. You could either create
a tarball from the SVN repository of the hyph-utf8 package or fetch the
generated XML files in the tarball
http://sourceforge.net/projects/offo/files/offo-hyphenation/2.0/offo-hyphenation_v2.0.zip/download
but that would go a bit against Debians policy of building anything from
the most primitive source available (although texlive-base-2009’s source
also seems to contain generated patterns).

If you want to build them together with FOP, the new multi-tarball
feature of dpkg might be handy.

Thanks,
Joachim

¹ http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/1.0/hyphenation.html#license-issues
Many of the hyphenation files distributed with TeX and its offspring are
licenced under the LaTeX Project Public License (LPPL), which prevents
them from being distributed with Apache software. The LPPL puts
restrictions on file names in redistributed derived works which we feel
can't guarantee. Some hyphenation pattern files have other or additional
restrictions, for example against use for commercial purposes.

Bug#451258: Possible to backport to squeeze?

It's too late for backporting a fix like this from experimental to
squeeze at this point, I don't think it would make it through the
release team, and I would have very little arguments to give.

Fair enough.

 However,
I'm willing to upload a backport of 1.0 to squeeze-backports, should
it be necessary. (but I saw you were responsible for the lenny
backports; would you keep on going with them for squeeze ?)

I don’t mind. As a matter of fact, I already built it for lenny:
http://people.debian.org/~nomeata/fop-lenny/

For it to be accepted in squeeze-backports it would have migrate to
testing after the squeeze release first, though.

As of now, fop 1.0 is in experimental to avoid potentially
disturbing package builds, but I don't really think it more unstable
 than the current testing/unstable version.

Good to know, as it is now installed on the production machine.

Thanks,
Joachim

[Re-sent, as the adresses in the CC were wrong]

Hi,

just FYI, as I need an updated fop package on a lenny installation, I
backported fop and the required dependencies batik, xml-commons-external
and xmlgraphics-commons. All build without problems using lenny
packages.

I will upload them to lenny-backports as soon as my key is added to the
backports keyring.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#512443: Please enable a catalog resolver, or document how to do so

Hi,

I tried to make fop (the “binary”) to use the locally installed DTDs for
docbook, but I could not find out how.

I installed libxml-commons-resolver1.1-java, but I only could find
documentation on enabling this with xalan directly, and could not make
it work.

Ideally, fop would just use the Debian catalog in /etc/xml/catalog, or
at least document in the README.Debian how I can configure it to do so.

Thanks,
Joachim
