Bug#764711: jenkins: Fails on Unable to read /var/lib/jenkins/config.xml

FWIW, it seems 2 plugins (so far) have been missing for Jenkins to
operate on my installation :
 - matrix-auth : this one seems to solve the config file parsing issue
 - matrix-project : solves a later issue my users have noticed (like

https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-25001?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel)

I manually fetched latest versions of these from
http://updates.jenkins-ci.org/download/plugins/ and placed them in
/var/lib/jenkins/plugins (chowned as jenkins:jenkins) and restarted.

So far so good.

My guess is that the build of latest upload misses quite a few
plugins...

Thanks in advance.

Please note that it is possible to use the maven-plugin as
distributed by upstream - so you should still be able to
   use this plugin.

I tried to, but I couldn't find it listed in the Available
tab. I guess that's because they assume it is included in
   core.
   I grabbed

   http://pkg.jenkins-ci.org/debian/binary/jenkins_1.480_all.deb

and moved the maven-plugin.hpi and javadoc.hpi to
/var/lib/jenkins/plugins. Created directories there without the hpi
and unzipped the files into it. This seems to serve as a
   workaround.

You should be able to install the maven plugin from the Jenkins Web UI
  - - I think its titled 'Maven 2 Plugin'.

Tried that but it doesn't seem to werk for plugins already shipped with
upstream Jenkins. It didn't show up for me.

FWIW, http://updates.jenkins-ci.org/download/plugins/maven-plugin/ may offer
the right version to be picked, i.e. currently for unstable's version,
http://updates.jenkins-ci.org/download/plugins/maven-plugin/1.509.2/maven-plugin.hpi

Btw, don't update it, once installed, or you'll get Java exceptions, if I'm not
mistaken.

Hope this helps.

Bug#726489: jenkins: Provide directions on how to make it available on non-local IPs

2013-10-16 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: jenkins
Version: 1.509.2+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

It is not exactly explicit how Jenkins can be accessed, once installed, i.e.
localhost:8080, from reading the README.Debian.

However, this shouldn't be very hard to guess if one examines the running
processes... nothing a casual admin should be blocked by. Still, making it
explicit may be better, IMHO.

But besides this minor point, I think it would be quite useful to provide
directions on how to configure it (or what must be added, like apache +
mod_proxy) to make it available on a non-local IP.

Of course
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Running+Jenkins+behind+Apache may
be useful, but there may be a better Debian way of doing things, which would be
worth documenting in README.Debian.

Many thanks in advance.

Bug#675233: jenkins: Please secure access to jenkins or provide instructions to do so

2012-05-30 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: jenkins
Severity: normal

Hi.

By default, AFAICT, Jenkins will be installed running on port 8080, accessible
from anywhere, and fully configurable by anyone. I believed this is dangerous,
security wise.

Please either provide a default setup which limits its openness for instance
allowing only local clients to connect on localhost:8080, or at minimum an
important message when it gets installed via APT debconf templates, referring
to a README providing instructions on how to configure its security.

https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Standard+Security+Setup seems a
good start for such instructions, I guess, but I'm no Jenkins guru.

However, there's nothing in /usr/share/doc/tomcat6-admin to instruct the Debian

It seems to me that no user is configured by default and one has to to it by
