Package: azureus
Severity: serious

The version of azureus currently in the archive has been uploaded
in 2009 and it many upstream releases behind. It has been dropped
from testing back in 2013 and the last upload was in 2011. Since
there's apparently no current maintenance interest in Vuze/Azureus
and since there are plenty of other Torrent clients in Debian I
suggest we remove it from the archive.

If you agree, please reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org

Cheers,
Moritz

Hi,

I completely understand the sentiment that we want to fix bugs instead
of going the easy way and remove packages. However Azureus has already
missed two stable releases and we already had this discussion 1.5 years
ago. At some point we should accept that the package is in a really bad
shape and that it should not even be shipped in unstable because it is
basically unusable.

Mykola Nikishov pointed to the new fork BiglyBT and this one seems to be
more suited for Debian anyway because they removed all those advertising
crap.

Since you are fine with going to NEW again and I would support anybody
else who is really interested in maintaining this package, I think the
removal of azureus makes sense now. Hence I would like to ask the FTP
team to remove azureus from Debian due to the outstanding issues
mentioned in its RC bug reports.

Thank you

Markus

Actually there has been a change since upstream has cleared the license
issues we raised. I still intend to update the package, but I don't mind
if it has to go through the NEW queue.

Seems it is better to check BiglyBT [1] instead:

Two long-time developers of the Vuze BitTorrent client, formerly
known as Azureus, have launched a new client. BiglyBT emerges at a
time when Vuze development has stalled. The developers promise to
take the project forward while removing all advertising and other
annoyances.

This issue is fixed in Git but Stephen Nelson wanted to ask upstream for
some license clarifications. Unfortunately we haven't heard back from
him since August 2015.

Bug#793492:

2015-07-28 Thread Stephen Nelson
I had updated Vuze to 5.3 [1] but there were some outstanding
questions over the copyright of source files. I raised this with
upstream and they took a while to clarify it and I lost the momentum a
bit.

I'd still like to get it back into Debian so I'll import the latest
version and try to get it done soon. Please don't remove it just yet.

Many thanks

Stephen

Hi Moritz,

I'm interested in reviving Azureus, but that's a low priority item on my
todo list. Stephen Nelson also voiced its interest [1].
