Bug#805769: netbeans: Startup stuck on "Loading modules..."

2016-01-13 Thread Michael Herold
I can confirm this bug on testing (amd64). However, I don't see any
pattern at all. I tried (approx.) the following things in this order:

- Started with old .netbeans settings: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Started with old .netbeans settings: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Started with old .netbeans settings: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Started with old .netbeans settings: Asks for importing them
 - Clicked Yes: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Started with old .netbeans settings: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Removed .netbeans: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Removed .nbi and workspace: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Logout
- Login into fresh user
- Started: Nothing happens
- Started: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Deleted all content of home folder: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Logout
- Login into fresh user again
- Started: Hangs on "Loading modules..."
- Logout
- Login into my actual account
- Started: Everything is working
- Quit
- Started: Everything is working

Before starting new instances I have always killed the old instance.

Hi,

I think the problem here is that you used the official version along
with Debian's one. They both use the same configuration in ~/.netbeans,
and we cannot guarantee that this always works perfectly. So in short I
recommend to use only one of them, naturally the Debian one :), to avoid
any conflicts. You should also be on the safe side if you remember to
rename your config directory whenever you change IDEs. Then both should
be able to co-exist.

I'll keep this bug report open for a while in case someone has a similar
problem.

There is also a Ubuntu bug report which seems to be related.:

2016-01-08 Thread Mu
This is embarrasing :) Last time I checked still was not available.

I,ve been trying and I am afraid that that my tests are difficult to
interpret, since the error seems a bit random.

I have tried the importation several times with:

$ rm -rf 8.0.2/ 8.1/ ; netbeans

(I am importing configuration from 7.3)

For several times the program started normally and the projects were
correctly imported.

Then I remembered I had problems with the 8.1 version of netbeans I
downloaded from the webpage. I have tried that version and it got stuck on
"Loading modules".

The strange thing is that after that, any try I have done on the debian
version got stuck on "Starting modules". If I kill the process and try
without deleting the configuration directory, it starts normally and the
projects are imported.

I think it has to be related to something netbeans did in my projects
directory, but I can't figure out what because I don't have those files
versioned. Anyway, the bug is no longer a big deal to me, since I could
import my projects and I can run netbeans as long as I don't delete the
config directory.

I have testing on my computer, so I haven't received the update yet. I
think I can access to a computer with sid, and I will post the results as
soon as I can.

Hi,

yesterday I have uploaded a new version of Netbeans, 8.1. I would
appreciate it if you could test the latest release and report back
whether this bug still affects you.

I'm not entirely sure what has triggered this issue in the beginning but
I'm glad that it could be resolved for you. I keep this bug report open
a little while longer in case someone has a similar problem. Perhaps we
can find out more about it then. If nobody else is affected, I will
close this bug in the future though.

Hello Martin,

thanks for the report. I couldn't reproduce it on my system. Everything
starts fine. What happens if you backup and remove your ~/.netbeans
directory and start again. Did you install any third-party plugins? If
yes, which one?

Markus

Hello Markus,

thank you for suggestion, removing ~/.netbeans solved the problem. I
should have tried it. However, I didn't install any third-party plugins
or otherwise modify my netbeans install/config. The problem occurred on
the first attempt to start Netbeans right after the installation.

2015-11-22 Thread Martin Račák
Package: netbeans
Version: 8.0.2+dfsg1-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Netbeans is stuck on "Loading modules.." phase (displayed on splash) on startup
when run as a regular user. When run with sudo in terminal however, Netbeans
starts as expected. I get no output in terminal when run as regular user, but
I'm attaching the log file. I also tried running it with java-8-openjdk-amd64
with no change.
