[Pkg-javascript-devel] Bug#934730: RM: node-yawl -- ROM; orphaned upstream - FTBFS

2019-08-14 Thread Xavier Guimard
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi all,

node-yawl never entered to testing due to FTBFS. Issue posted to
upstream [1], but nobody answers. node-yawl has no reverse dependencies.

That's why I propose to remove it from Debian

Cheers,
Xavier

Hi all,

[Pkg-javascript-devel] yui3 problems

2019-08-14 Thread Xavier
Hi all,

yui3 package has many problems:
 - Debian problems:
   * RC/DFSG bug
   * never updated since old-old-stable (except a Security Team change)
   * not released in stable, neither old-stable
   * debian/watch points to a site now redirected to a GitHub repo that
 builds a "yui" library [1]
 - Consistency problems:
   * "yui" npmjs package points to [1]
   * "yui" npm module is "YUI 3: The Yahoo User Interface Library"
   * our packages are named libjs*yui3*
   * "yui3" npmjs package points to [2] with a very different content
 than our
   * [2] is a fork of [3]
   * [1] seems unmaintained for 5 years
   * [2] seems unmaintained for 8 years
   * [3] seems unmaintained for 7 years

yui3 is a reverse dependency of loggerhead:
 * maintained by Bazaar Team
 * not in stable, neither in testing (blocked by yui3 of course)

loggerhead has no reverse dependencies

So my question are:
 * Does Bazaar Team wanted to maintain loggerhead in Debian?
   => if no, please ROM-RM to permits our ROM-RM of yui3
   => if yes, does Bazaar Team want to maintain yui3 by itself?
  * if yes, please go ahead
  * if no:
- which repo is the good dependency of loggerhead
- does JS Team want to clean and maintain this?
  (yadd advice is "**no**")

Cheers,
Xavier

[Pkg-javascript-devel] De-embedding a component

2019-08-14 Thread Paolo Greppi
The https://wiki.debian.org/Javascript/GroupSourcesTutorial page is great
but does not cover the reverse step, when you want to de-embed a component.

This is useful if upstream drops that dependency or if it gets separately
packaged in Debian.

I have done that manually for node-yarnpkg/strict-uri-encode here:
https://salsa.debian.org/js-team/node-yarnpkg/commit/9a7ff6867e

Please someone review my approach before I upload, and maybe document it in
the wiki page above.
One thing I am not sure about is that strict-uri-encode tarball is still
present in pristine-tar branch ...

Paolo

Hi,

I can easily build a "del-node-component"

[Pkg-javascript-devel] node-neo-async_2.6.1-2~bpo10+1_amd64.changes is NEW

2019-08-14 Thread Debian FTP Masters
binary:node-neo-async is NEW.
binary:node-neo-async is NEW.
source:node-neo-async is NEW.

Your package has been put into the NEW queue, which requires manual action
from the ftpteam to process. The upload was otherwise valid (it had a good
OpenPGP signature and file hashes are valid), so please be patient.

Packages are routinely processed through to the archive, and do feel
free to browse the NEW queue[1].

If there is an issue with the upload, you will receive an email from a
member of the ftpteam.

If you have any questions, you may reply to this email.

[Pkg-javascript-devel] Suggestions on ruby-task-list and node-deckar01-task-list

2019-08-14 Thread Pirate Praveen

Hi ruby and js teams,

task_list project [1] provides both ruby and nodejs code from the same
repo. Currently only ruby-task-list binary package is created. I added
a new binary package node-deckar01-task-list for the nodejs code, but
it was rejected by ftp masters [2].

They think we should not add a new binary package for this case and
instead should use a Provides field and a single binary package. This
means installing node-deckar01-task-list will install ruby with it and
ruby-task-list will install nodejs with it. Other option is to remove
ruby dependency from ruby-task-list (but there are more dependencies
than just ruby) and not add nodejs dependency. The rationale ftp
masters give is to reduce number of binary node packages and hence
metadata per packages.

In general we have started aggressively embedding smaller nodejs
modules already as per ftp master suggestion, but in my opinion this is
going too far on their mandate.

I don't agree with their decision, but the only option I have to
challenege it is a GR. I'd like to hear from the rest of the team what
you think about the situation. Do you agree with ftp masters? If you
don't agree, would you support a GR to reverse this policy?

Thanks
Praveen

Did you quote ftpmaster in full in that referenced post written by you?

Do they? In what you reference above I only see Ftpmaster saying "We've
talked about this." which can frankly mean a lot of different things.

> I don't agree with their decision, but the only option I have to
> challenege it is a GR.

You mean you have already tried the route of going to the technical
committee, and asking for the opinion of the DPL? Or am I missing
something making those options a no-go?

Whichever options available, I think it would be helpful with the
opinions of stakeholders more clearly laid out - i.e. more than quoting
ftpmasters for saying "We've talked about this." and you taking
responsibility for explaining what that's supposed to mean.

Thanks for your work on this,

 - Jonas
