According to tackat (marble developer) libmarble should not be expected to
work w/o plugins (even though he has fixed the crasher in trunk). I think
better fix is that libmarble4 would depend on marble-data package (something
like this was done in Ubuntu's kdeedu package).

I think I have narrowed down this issue.
digikam tries to load the marble plugins, but they are not shipped in the
libmarble package, rather the marble package itself.
The solution is for digikam to Depend on marble, but as a work around, you
should be able to install marble (KDE
