Ok. "Format while editing" seems like a pretty bad name given that it
must be set for the format options to have an effect when the user is
not using the edit box. Indeed the documentation seems to have it wrong:

When Format while editing is checked, the format configuration is
automatically used while editing text in the line edits.

Maybe something like 'Always apply the format to the filenames' would be
clearer.

[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#807896: kid3 does not substitute slashes when building filename

2015-12-14 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hello Urs,

could you have a look at this issue? Thanks!

Package: kid3
Version: 3.3.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Steps to reproduce this bug:
  * Start kid3 and load a set of tracks.
  * Go to Settings -> Configure Kid3... In Files, make sure that there is a rule
to replace '/' with '-' or add one.
  * Back to the main dialog, edit one of the titles so it includes a slash.
For instance "Noel Blanc / White Christmas".
  * Set the Format used to generate filenames to '%{title}' and click on the
appropriate button to update the filename from the id3 tags.
  * BUG: The filename should now read 'Noel Blanc - White Christmas.mp3", but
instead it is "Noel Blanc / White Christmas.mp3".
  * If you try to save the changes you get an error message saying the file is
no writable. That makes sense given that there is no "Noel Blanc "
directory.

The workaround is to manually edit the filename and redo the save operation.

String replacements are not performed by default. If you want them to
be executed automatically, go to "Settings/Configure Kid3.../Files" and
make sure that "Format while editing" is checked. If this checkbox is
not checked, you can perform the string replacements using the menu
"Tools/Apply Filename Format".

The same options exist for tags, its "Format while editing" checkbox
can be found in "Settings/Configure Kid3.../Tags/Tag 1 and Tag 2" and
the manual menu function is "Tools/Apply Tag Format".
