I think I found the problem in Debian's CMake rules. Lines 5 & 6 here specify the fonts passed to CMake: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-multimedia/projectm.git/tree/debian/rules I think a good fix for now is to change those font paths, but it looks like fontconfig can be used for automatic
