Re: Bug#591287: libmatroska: New upstream version available
Hi all! I've brought libmatroska back into shape in our GIT repository. It is currently targeted at experimental, because it needs libebml from there. Alternatively, if libebml is uploaded to unstable before, I think libmatroska could go there as well. Both libraries bump SONAME, but the transition will be marginal, since no other packages (build-) depend on libmatroska than mkvtoolnix and vlc (and additionally libmatroska depends on libebml, of course). For this reason, I've also uploaded these three packages in the hope that they are processed soon. I have indeed seen that mencoder has been accepted into the archive and this is certainly great news. On the other hand, compared with heavy-weights as lame and xvid, I consider mencoder quite harmless beacuse it uses Debian's system libavcodec which already has most of its critical codecs disarmed. However, I'll keep my fingers crossed! yeah, the technical details for mencoder was quite silly, but ftp-master insisted on finding a general solution for the whole mess. it seems this has been found now, at least that's how I understand it. Details will probably be given In the talk How We Can Be the Silver Lining of the Cloud by Eben Moglen on Wednesday. Judging from the abstract [1], this talk does not have too much to do with multimedia codecs but deals with privacy in the cloud. However, as Felipe (congrats to your DD account!) already requested, please keep your fellows on the other side of the curtain informed. ;) Sure! :-) All in all, very promising stuff is going on! Cool, feels good to read this sentence about Debian from you (given how futile the mood was about one year ago when #522373 was filed.) Stefano explicitly asked me to not follow up on #522373, I guess they will want to answer it themselves. If the doxygen calls are simply for generating the contents of libcsound64-doc then arranging for them to only occur when the binary-indep packages are being built sounds like a sane solution; if I'm missing something obvious, then someone please apply the relevant cluebat. :-) Well, it feels hacky to build stuff in the binary stage. [...] Indeed. How do you suggest working through this? Facts: 1. The build hangs unpredictably on a doxygen call. 2. The doxygen call is in build-indep (so it is not strictly necessary for binary only builds, but gets executed anyway). I can move the doxygen call away from there into binary-indep, but that feels like a hack to me. Does the documentation actually differ across architectures? No, it doesn't. Also, it seems to me that what we are doing is re-hiding a bug that is somewhere else. If we really want to do that, please tell me and I'll prepare a new upload with that. AFAIUI from discussions with other DDs here, this is a long standing and known bug that is not going to be fixed soon. I therefore think we should do that change with a comment so that we can undo it when dpkg-buildpackage gets fixed. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

It seems I added the gbp.conf file just too late, i.e. after git-import-orig'ing the libmatroska 1.0.0 release tarball which is bz2'ed. So bzip2 is right.
