Hi,

vlc consistently segfaults when trying to transcode/stream from a v4l device

:v4l-contrast=-1 :no-v4l-mjpeg :v4l-decimation=1 :v4l-quality=100

Transcoding:

It looks a lot like an ancient vlc bug (Trac ticket #486).

The same bug exists in unstable, tested on both i386 and amd64.

Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.8-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

Hi,

vlc 1.1.8-1 currently FTBFS on hppa, s390 and sparc because of a wrong
build-dependency[1]. The log files[2][3][4] all contain this:

checking for THEORA... yes
checking for DIRAC... yes
checking for SCHROEDINGER... no
configure: error: Library schroedinger-1.0 = 1.0.10 needed for
schroedinger was not found
make[1]: *** [override_dh_auto_configure] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/build/buildd-vlc_1.1.8-1-hppa-UUvoDW/vlc-1.1.8'
make: *** [build] Error 2
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2

However, vlc 1.1.8-1 currently only depends on libschroedinger-dev
(=1.0.7). You should probably update the build-dependencies.

Although bumping the bumping the build-dependencies would probably be
the correct solution, it won't solve the problem completely, see [5].

Best regards

Alexander Kurtz

Bug#619530: ffmpeg: backport of 4:0.6.1-5 from unstable produces WARNING: library configuration mismatch

2011-03-29 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Am 28.03.2011 13:58, schrieb Reinhard Tartler:

I'm happy that Fabian agrees with me. I'll see if I can propose some
configure switch for 0.7, but TBH, the trick with building the libraries
in different flavors is a very Debian specific trick that cannot be
upstreamed easily. Nor am I convinced that this should go upstream.

Maybe av_log(NULL, AV_LOG_VERBOSE, ...) should be used here instead of
plain fprintf(stderr, ...)?

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were
published for ffmpeg. Patches are provided in the CVE notes.

CVE-2010-4704[0]:
| libavcodec/vorbis_dec.c in the Vorbis decoder in FFmpeg 0.6.1 and
| earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service
| (application crash) via a crafted .ogg file, related to the
| vorbis_floor0_decode function. NOTE: this might overlap CVE-2011-0480.

CVE-2010-4705[1]:
| Integer overflow in the vorbis_residue_decode_internal function in
| libavcodec/vorbis_dec.c in the Vorbis decoder in FFmpeg, possibly 0.6,
| has unspecified impact and remote attack vectors, related to the sizes
| of certain integer data types. NOTE: this might overlap CVE-2011-0480.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

Package: ffmpeg
Version: 4:0.6.1-5
Severity: normal

I was trying to find out which version of ffmpeg reenabled the
mpeg2video codec.

In squeeze, the changelog includes:

ffmpeg (4:0.5.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Enable some encoders:
- h263, h263p, mpeg2video, mpeg4, msmpeg4v1, msmpeg4v2, msmpeg4v3
Closes: #418231, #433287, #440216, #587898, #525349
  * Bump Standards Version, no changes needed

 -- Reinhard Tartler siret...@tauware.de  Thu, 05 Aug 2010 11:59:26 -0400

In sid, this entry is missing. Presumably this is because you worked
on different branches for squeeze/sid and experimental for a while,
and the current package is derived from the latter branch. However,
you have merged at least some changes from the former branch,
including this one, into the current package. The changelog should
show this.

Ben.

creox REMOVED from testing

2011-03-29 Thread Debian testing watch
FYI: The status of the creox source package
in Debian's testing distribution has changed.

  Previous version: 0.2.2rc2really0.2.2rc2-1
  Current version:  (not in testing)
  Hint: Package not in unstable

The script that generates this mail tries to extract removal
reasons from comments in the britney hint files. Those comments
were not originally meant to be machine readable, so if the
reason for removing your package seems to be nonsense, it is
probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the
actual hints file before you complain about meaningless removals.

Ecasound 2.7.2 (maybe) ready for upload

2011-03-29 Thread Alessandro Ghedini
Hi all,

the ecasound package seems IMHO, almost ready for upload.
Could someone please have a look at it, and check that I haven't missed
anything or done something wrong?

It's on git.d.o [0]

Note that since the source package and some of the binaries have been
renamed (some new binary packages have also been added) this will need to
go through NEW (asking for a removal of the old ecasound2.2 will be needed
as well, AFAIU).

Thank you

Sorry for the mess here, this is from combining three emails...

I'm seeing the same segfault here, and rebuild with nostrip to get a
more useful backtrace:

After rebuilding with noopt as well, I found this:

(gdb) up
#3  0x75e8f5a0 in __vaDriverInit_0_31 (ctx=0x60eb40) at
vdpau_driver.c:291
291 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1(ctx);
(gdb) l

287 /* Assume a NULL display implies VA-API 0.31.1 struct with the
288vtable_tpi field placed just after the vtable, thus replacing

290 if (!ctx0-native_dpy)
291 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1(ctx);
292
293 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_0(ctx);
294 }
295 #endif

That comment looks damning. It is calling vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1, with
the null native_dpy (as apparently expected), which is then ultimately
being passed to XDisplayString, leading to a segfault.

So, it seems there is an API mismatch.

Finally, list of all the related (hopefully) packages I have installed:

Bug#599329: Somewhat useful backtrace

2011-03-29 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: libva-x11-1
Version: 1.0.8-3
Severity: normal

I rebuilt vdpau-video-0.7.2 with noopt,nostrip to get a more useful
backtrace. It ignored noopt, but did manage to not strip.

Will try and fix that problem and followup again.

Bug#599329: Got a noopt build

2011-03-29 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: libva-x11-1
Version: 1.0.8-3
Severity: normal

(gdb) up
#3  0x75e8f5a0 in __vaDriverInit_0_31 (ctx=0x60eb40) at
vdpau_driver.c:291
291 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1(ctx);
(gdb) l
286
287 /* Assume a NULL display implies VA-API 0.31.1 struct with the
288vtable_tpi field placed just after the vtable, thus replacing
289original native_dpy field */
290 if (!ctx0-native_dpy)
291 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1(ctx);
292
293 return vdpau_Initialize_0_31_0(ctx);
294 }
295 #endif

That comment looks damning. It is calling vdpau_Initialize_0_31_1, with
the null native_dpy (as apparently expected), which is then ultimately
being passed to XDisplayString, leading to a segfault.

So, it seems there is an API mismatch.
