Great job, Felipe, thanks for looking into this!

- Play a webm video file with mpv, no other arguments (not sure if format

- Strike F to enter fullscreen mode
- Wait 2-10 seconds
- mpv will crash

For me, it caused gnome-shell to refresh, and reported a segfault. Log:

The GPL license has specific requirements (e.g. verbatim copy of the
license shipped with the sources).

We need a tarball with sources *and* a copy of the license as released by

Because rtkit-test is not shipped in the package, so fixing it has no
functional effect. I will let Lennart know about this problem, but I
haven't got around to yet.

Also, the test is not run during build, and it cannot be, because it
requires the rtkit daemon running. We could (and probably should) cook up
an autopkgtest that runs it, but I think that may be out of scope during
the freeze. Maybe Im wrong on that, though.

 Thanks again!

Re: Package of libbdplus

You are right, libbdplus doesn't attempt to break anything and only
decrypts BD when keys are provided by the user as we can see on it's
website [1], they say this project doesn't offer any key, configuration
file or certificate that could be used to decode encrypted copyrighted
material. and libbdplus does not infringe DRM's right or copyright

Great.

I had a look at the package and I've added myself as second uploader.
Here are some comments:

 - d/copyright: CF-1.0 states:

When the License field in a paragraph has the short name
public-domain, the remaining lines of the field must explain
exactly what exemption the corresponding files for that paragraph
 have from default copyright restrictions.

However, for src/libbdplus/bdsvm/sha1.* the paragraph explaining this
is missing. Please clarify the license of these two files.

 - d/control: debhelper no longer uses a X.Y.Z version scheme. It's
X.date these days. I've fixed that in git.

 - d/dbp.conf is missing. I've added it in git.

Otherwise the packaging looks good to me. If the license of
src/libbdplus/bdsvm/sha1.* can be clarified, it's ready to be uploaded.

Cheers

I hope that abbreviation GPL refers to GNU Public License.

What do you guys want? If you don't want to add it, perfect, but just say
it. Don't start a nitpicking game about some instrumentsetting patches! I
just want to make Debian a bit better, and share some 'user info' which
could help others to make music with Debian.

I was pretty clear about the fact that those users have no problem (read
they like to share their patches with others) for you to add it to the
package AMS. I asked them which license via email, they say GPL. So make it
the GPL version you want, and don't make a problem about nothing.

Also the patches from Ken Restivo are GPL

quote Ken Restivo:Yep, they are derived from the AMS example patches
and Atte's, so therefore they're all GPL.

I hope that abbreviation GPL refers to GNU Public License.

I hope it is version 2 of said license, and that it is the ...or newer
 variant of the license.

But that is all wishfull thinking on my part - and I am not the
copyright holder so can only hope or be sloppy and risk problems later,
which Debian try hard to avoid!

For GPL licensing, please pretty please use the exact phrases
recommended by the GNU project, which is written at the bottom of the
 licensing text itself:

We want to redistribute great code that fits our definition of Free

We _do_ expect this code to be great (just haven't tried it out yet).

We _do_ expect this code to fit our licensing criteria (just need its
author(s) to unambiguously state that).

Sorry, it is not our intention to harrass anyone here, if that's the

2014-11-14 Thread rosea grammostola
It's just so irritating that things can move so slowly in Debian sometimes.
I really like 'Debian' for being so focussing on good packaging with proper
license etc., but sometimes it just don't have a point, like in this case.

It's about some presets for AMS, a synth. I mean it's no base software or
something, just presets. It's clear that the makers of those presets wants
to share them with a GPL license.

I like to help Debian, but if it's so cumbersome to report a simple
request, then I'll think twice the next time to summit a bugreport. Then
asking the maintainers of Kxstudio or AVLinux would be a better shot I
guess. I should care less.

Bug#742896: Random blank video with VDPAU enabled

2014-11-14 Thread Bálint Réczey
Hi Manuel,

2014-11-09 15:50 GMT+01:00 Manuel CISSÉ cisse.manuel+debian-...@gmail.com:
 Hello,

I was also following this bug since I was also having this issue.

Now, I am using xbmc 13.2+dfsg1-4 and nvidia closed source drivers 340.46
and XBMC also crashes randomly when VDPAU is enabled (no problem with
software rendering), but only when seeking (i.e. playing a video works but
 when seeking XBMC often crashes).

 Please find attached xbmc crashlog.
From the crashlog:
...
23:23:17 T:139872186660608 ERROR: (VDPAU) Error: A catch-all error,
used when no other error code applies.(25) at VDPAU.cpp:3251
...
libvdpau returned the following error (defined at
/usr/include/vdpau/vdpau.h:1215):
...
/**
 * A catch-all error, used when no other error code applies.
 */
VDP_STATUS_ERROR,
...

Since I can't debug this further from this generic error information
please open a bug against libvdpau1 CC-ing me.

Cheers,
Balint

 Hey,

I've been following this bug report closely since i've been experiencing
 the described issue.
When VDPAU is enabled, a blank screen was displayed (before all latest
the patches) and more recently XBMC just crashes.

Upgraded XBMC to the latest version 13.2+dfsg1-4 but the issue is still
present (crashes when VDPAU is enabled). Previous versions 13.2+dfsg1-2 and
13.2+dfsg1-3 and 13.0~beta2+dfsg1-1 were the same.
With software rendering, all works as intended.

Using open-source nouveau drivers with an NVIDIA Corporation GT218
 card.

 I've attached the xbmc crashlog.

Thanks for the log and the follow up. It seems you experience a
problem, which is different from the original issue.
This bug has a very long history already thus I would not like to clone
 it.
Please open a new bug against libdrm-nouveau2 because the crash is
happening there. I suspect you would be able to use VDPAU using the
 closed source nvidia driver.

 Cheers,
 Balint

 Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?
XBMC is in a window, playing certain videos: xvid, or decoded bluray copied

going full screen by pressing the \ key
* What was the outcome of this action?
 segfault. See attached crash logs.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
 no segfault
I see no segfault in the attached logs.
Could you please attach a log file with a crashdump?

In other types of video files, what I observe is a black screen instead of
continued video playback, lasting a few seconds, then XBMC kind of
fast-forwards through the last few seconds of missed video until it catches
 up.

From the logs it seems something is slow in VDPAU:
...
20:52:15 T:140235430156032  NOTICE: CVDPAU::Check waiting for display
reset event
20:52:18 T:140236907264064 ERROR: CheckDisplayEvents - no display
event after 3 seconds
20:52:18 T:140236907264064 DEBUG: CheckDisplayEvents - notify
display reset event
...

Can you observe similar issues with mpv VDPAU with the same files?

Cheers,
Balint

I'd love to, some specific and detailed instructions could help..

Nah, took trouble to confirm this is very xbmc-specific, worked fine in
previous versions of the debian package, and still works on the same
machine with mpv vdpau.
It also causes problems with my other OLAND card but that's pulled out
atm due to other crashes..

Bug#769541: ams: please add the 'Atte-Jensen-instrumentpatches' to the Ams package

2014-11-14 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Quoting rosea grammostola (2014-11-14 21:08:40)
It's just so irritating that things can move so slowly in Debian
 sometimes.

Right. I feel like that myself sometimes. But less and less, as I
understand the reasons for processing involved.

It's about some presets for AMS, a synth. I mean it's no base software
or something, just presets. It's clear that the makers of those
presets wants to share them with a GPL license.

Yes, that is clear - that's what they state verbatim.

What is not clear is *which* GPL license.

A reason such detail is important is that Debian definitions of required
freedoms not only involve authors permitting Debian to use the code for
its original purpose, but also permitting Debian to forward permission
to anyone else to repurpose the code - and e.g. if licensed as GPL-2
then that is compatible with e.g. Expat licensed works and GPL-2+ works
but not with GPL-3 works. Stating licensing explicitly is important.

I like to help Debian, but if it's so cumbersome to report a simple
request, then I'll think twice the next time to summit a bugreport.
Then asking the maintainers of Kxstudio or AVLinux would be a better
shot I guess. I should care less.

We appreciate your filing this bugreport. Really!

We comment on the issue that the bugreport is about - getting the code
into Debian. Licensing clarification is for the _authors_ of the code
to correct, *not* you.

We really appreciate your helping out getting the authors to clarify,
and I am sorry if I have (unintendedly!) mislead you to feel that it was
a burden on you.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Ok, I asked Atte via email and you can use the latest GPL license.

Thanks again for your help with this, Rosea - and thanks to Atte for
clarifying.

Sorry to be nitpicking so much, but can you please forward that email
from Atte, including headers, for use as public record? Even better
would be if instead Atte could state himself the licensing of his
contribution by including such statement together with the code itself.

...and speaking of the code - it looks odd how the patch is committed to
Github as a tarball. That seems unsuitable for kenrestivo to adopt - I
suggest (unless you know better and have coordinated with kenrestivo
already) to instead commit as regular source code the way it is intended
to merge together with the rest of that code project, an then make a
pull request.
