Re: Select provider of libav* libraries
Hi Stuart, On 02.05.2015 03:26, Stuart Prescott wrote: There are two extra elements to this transition proposal that you have missed: Thanks for double-checking my transition proposal. * what package will include /usr/bin/av* so that user's existing scripts are not needlessly broken? They have not been included in your previous analysis but need to be to ensure that they are not broken by the proposed changes. Actually they have been included in my analysis and I found (with codesearch [1]) that most simply support both or don't use the binaries directly and thus changing the recommends/suggest is not that important. The only one that requires avconv and recommends libav-tools is python-audioread. It is built from the same source package as python3-audioread, which was included in my list of reverse-dependencies of libav-tools. For completeness: Reverse recommends of libav-tools: * education-desktop-other no direct use * kphotoalbum supports both * python-audioread drop avconv.patch (see python3-audioread) * soundkonverter supports both * vcmi no direct use Reverse suggests of libav-tools: * albumno direct use * beetsuses only ffmpeg already * get-iplayer supports both, already suggests ffmpeg * gvb no direct use * mediathekviewno direct use * owncloud supports both * view3dscene no direct use No package dependency relation: * cantata supports both * get-flash-videos supports both * gpodder supports both * imagemagick configure check for avconv, but no BD on libav-tools * livessupports both * marble supports both * mps-youtube supports both * moc supports both * synfig supports both Best regards, Andreas 1: https://codesearch.debian.net/perpackage-results/avconv/2/page_0 ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Request to be a new maintainers
Dear Debian multimedia team, I would be interested to contribute on some multimedia packages, particularity on calf-plugins, ardour, libffado2, qjackctl and other music production tool. Debian came into my life for 6 years mainly on stable branche for my home servers, professional laptop, and music recording platform. I play also with sid. The scripting language (sh/bash/python) and Linux (centos) troubleshooting are my daily tasks. I also have basic knowledge on C/C++ and I'm a big fan of Django. Yesterday I packaged the calf-plugin on the new upstream by following the Debian maintainers and packaging with Git guide. I also repackaged libffado2 few month ago because we have managed a patch with developers for my sound card http://subversion.ffado.org/ticket/383 http://sourceforge.net/p/ffado/mailman/message/33167394/ I would be glad to share this work with the Debian community and help DM My alioth account pandamasta-guest I'm already on pkg-multimedia-maintainers and pkg-multimedia-commits I just discovered BTS and reported one bug for the new upstream version of calf. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=783413 I'm familiar to reports bug on mailing list and trac/redmine. I'm on #debian-multimedia and #debian-next known as panda or BbT0n in freenode channels particulary on #linuxmao and #freebsd-fr Let me know if you need more information by email or IRC. Bug#784089: libprojectm2 depends on dummy package ttf-dejavu-core
Package: libprojectm2 Version: 2.1.0+dfsg-1 Severity: normal Hi, Package libprojectm2 depends on dummy package ttf-dejavu-core, thus preventing its removal. The fix would be to replace the dependency on ttf-dejavu-core by fonts-dejavu-core. In theory, this can be fixed in jessie without introducing new dependencies, because ttf-dejavu-core already depends on fonts-dejavu-core, so changing this dependency in libprojectm2 shouldn't install any new package. AFAIU, BD-J allows BluRays to run some Java code for an extended experience... No even if that was sandboxed... we all know how problematic this is with respect to security and that Java has a really bad record in terms of that. In the end this probably means, that if installed, more or less arbitrary code from BluRays (especially video BluRays) may be executed. I think that at least the package description should clearly warn the user about that, since many people may not fully realise what BD-J means. And IMHO it would be even better, if libbluray-bdj was disabled by default, even when installed... like that any function of it simply returns an error, or that it's not loaded by libbluray unless some configuration file enables it explicitly. Cheers, Chris. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 1:0.8.0-1 On 2014-02-10 17:07:01, Christoph Anton Mitterer wrote: AFAIU, BD-J allows BluRays to run some Java code for an extended experience... Even better would be, if there was a critical debconf question which informs the user, and which defaults to an answer the aborts installing the package. Even though I wouldn't know of a concrete security hole in this lib or in the Security Manager you've mentioned, experience showed that such things are a typical entry point for code execution. So I think we should pro-actively warn users about this. Therefore reopening the issue for now, until you decide that you don't want to follow the idea with improved package description and/or the debconf question. In turn this prevents installing the 32-bit gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly package on 64-bit Debian systems. So I propose the attached Debian packaging files to make liba52-0.7.4 and liba52-0.7.4-dev multiarch compatible. Note that the development package used to contain tools (a52dec and extract_a52) which is totally incompatible with multiarch. So I moved these to a separate package, a52-0.7.4-tools, made that package multiarch foreign, and made the development package depend on it. I also moved the a52dec conflict/replace to the tools package.
