Bug#786438: libmp3lame0: general protection error in libmp3lame.so.0.0.0
Control: tags -1 patch Hi all, Am Montag, den 08.06.2015, 11:45 +0200 schrieb Fabian Greffrath: > So, in absence of a better approach, [...] I think I have found another, maybe even the final, fix for this issue. Remember that the operands in SSE functions must be aligned on 16-byte boundaries. In the init_xrpow_core_sse() function these operands are on the stack. However, when the code is called from the ocaml bindings, the stack is allocated by ocaml which does not adhere to the 16-byte boundary rule and thus casues the code to crash. So what we really need here is a means for the init_xrpow_core_sse() function to maintain its own stack and align it according to its needs. Now, guess what compiler flag I found yesterday? ;) -mstackrealign Realign the stack at entry. On the x86, the -mstackrealign option generates an alternate prologue and epilogue that realigns the run-time stack if necessary. This supports mixing legacy codes that keep 4-byte stack alignment with modern codes that keep 16-byte stack alignment for SSE compatibility. See also the attribute force_align_arg_pointer, applicable to individual functions. This flag applies per-file. If it is added to liblamevectorroutines_la_CFLAGS (next to the -msse flag) in libmp3lame/vector/Makefile.am the crash does not occure anymore. There is also a very similar per-function variant in the form of the force_align_arg_pointer attribute, but in the case at hand, all functions in the libmp3lame/vector/xmm_quantize_sub.c file call SSE -related code and thus I think it is safe to apply this flag file-wide. I'll be glad to read that this flag fixes the issue for you as well and read your opinions about the per-function or per-file variants. Not really, because a large part of the code can be influenced with configure options. But if one just enables additional codecs, rebuilding is not really necessary (only libavcodec/allcodecs.o has to be rebuilt then.) So one can just use two directories, first run configure in both (with the different options), then compile the GPLv2 variant, copy the object files (without allcodecs.o) to the GPLv3 folder, build the remaining GPLv3 de-/encoders there and link the libraries again. I don't think so. Since in the dh7-style everything can be overridden, it is just as flexible as the pre-dh7-style, but contains less boilerplate. >> Not having the libavcodec-extra flavor is not only a regression >> (having no AMR encoder), but also an improvement (simpler debian/rules, >> no license incompatibility to worry about, faster build, ...). >> I happen to think the improvement factor is bigger than the regression >> factor, but others may disagree. > > > As Fabian points out, it is not only AMR, but (currently) also libvo-aacenc. I think the native aac encoder is better than the libvo-aacenc encoder, but if we provide a libavcodec-extra flavor, we can enable that as well. Bug#788075: ITP: deken -- minimal package management system for Pure Data externals
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: IOhannes m zmoelnig * Package name: deken Version : 0.1 Upstream Author : Chris McCormick * URL : https://github.com/pure-data/deken * License : BSD-3-clause Programming Lang: Python, Tcl Description : minimal package management system for Pure Data externals deken is a package installer for Pure Data, that allows to search for externals in an online database and download pre-compiled binaries. It also comes with a tool that allows the creation (and upload) of such binaries. I intend to talk with upstream about the best way to (additionally) integrate the externals already packaged for Debian. I intend to do the packaging under the pkg-multimedia-maintainers team umbrella. fmards IOhannes ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
Bug#786438: libmp3lame0: general protection error in libmp3lame.so.0.0.0

We already know (i.e. hope) that the issue has been addressed by OCAML upstream and will vanish as soon as the new release will enter sid. So, in absence of a better approach, I am inclined to upload the fix adding "__attribute__((aligned(0x20)))" to Jessie. My own approach using static variables is indeed too prone to race conditions.
