I would prefer to just work on packaging but might as well reply to this.

In our initial conversation I mentioned that I was working on it, was
about to push it to git and asked you to join if you wanted to help.
It should have been clear that it was being worked on but
misunderstanding happen so fine.

For the rest I will just point you to the Developers Rerence:
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#adopting

In particular:
"It is not OK to simply take over a package that you feel is neglected
— that would be package hijacking. You can, of course, contact the
current maintainer and ask them if you may take over the package."

and

"Generally, you may not take over the package without the assent of
the current maintainer. Even if they ignore you, that is still not
grounds to take over a package. Complaints about maintainers should be
brought up on the developers' mailing list. If the discussion doesn't
end with a positive conclusion, and the issue is of a technical
nature, consider bringing it to the attention of the technical
committee (see the technical committee web page for more
information)."

The package is still in Debian, is not orphaned, still list Debian
Multimedia as the maintainer and the git repository shows activity
therefore most of that section applies. Also as discussed in bug
#763148 it was known since at least 28 Sep 2014 that most likely only
one of libav/ffmpeg would stay in Debian. Libav was the official
library until just 2 weeks ago therefore the prudent approach was to
wait until all that got sorted out and wait until a FFmpeg transition
(if it ever happened) to reintroduce the package.

Hi. Apologies for the delay; I needed some time so that I could be sure
my reply was levelheaded. As frustrating as I'm sure this has been for
you, it has been no less for me.

Yes, I'm still interested in joining the team. The most important thing
to me here is that mplayer be available in debian and that there be
support behind it. Toward that end, I believe I can contribute.

Regarding process, I have a couple grievances I want to air.

1. I did *not* know that anything was being worked on, and I apologize
for the duplicate effort. I tried (several times, actually) to
contact you, and I received no reply either on IRC (which is how you
contacted me) or to my mail to the list (which is what your wiki says
I'm supposed to do to join the team). Therefore, I assumed that
there was no work being done, since you had offered cooperation. It
saddens me that the default response is to declare me hostile rather
   than out of the loop.

2. Further, there has been an RFE/ITP bug open for mplayer+mencoder
   since date -d 'Fri, 03 Oct 2014 01:08:23 +0200'. It is number
763826. This is my first attempt at maintaining a package and I am
not overly familiar with the process, but my understanding is that
the workflow goes RFE->ITP->package upload, in rough terms. I
announced intent to package (and set bug status as such) on date -d
'Wed, 12 Nov 2014 16:58:51 -0500'. It has not changed since. Again,
I am new, but it is VERY surprising to me that one could expect to
upload a package without owning the ITP. It is especially irritating
for this to be dubbed a hijack, as to me it feels the opposite.

All that being said: yes, I'm still interested in seeing this through.

Bug#775555: vlc: VLC segfaults when converting a DVD with a title number greater than zero

2015-07-20 Thread Derek
It still happens

I've included attachments:
vlc-vvv.txt: contains the output when calling vlc from the command line
vlc_gdb_bt.txt: the output of "bt" when running vlc within gdb
vlc_bt_full.txt: the output of "bt full" from gdb

A few notes.
From reportbug-ng:

"Use "rm ~/.cache/vlc/plugins-*.dat" to remove your plugins cache."
 ~/.cache/vlc/ doesn't exist

"Check that modules are correctly loaded: "vlc -vvv --color --list"
If you have yellow warning lines at the top, that could well be the
   problem"

There are no yellow warning lines produced by that command

If you have installed libraries from other repositories (e.g. to use
allegedly patent-encumbred encoders), revert to the official Debian
   libraries before reporting a bug.

The only thing I've installed from outside of the Debian repo
is libdvdcss2 from the vlc repo to get DVD playback working

It has been uploaded and built on most architectures (still Needs-Build on
mips and s390x).

When you schedule the binNMUs, please also include bs1770gain, kodi and mlt,
even though they are already built against ffmpeg.
The new version has gained a libavcodec-extra flavor, so they should pick
up the alternative dependency on libavcodec-ffmpeg-extra56.

As the transition is now ongoing, I've changed the severity of #790356
(gst-libav1.0) to serious and filed #793015 for taoframework.

Best regards,
Andreas

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-multimedia-maintainers/2015-April/043650.html

This exactly.

It may not be a big deal (new versions of ardour an load old sessions),
but for a bit-exact re-export of older sessions, some users may want to
keep old Ardour2 and Ardour3 versions around.

i don't think we should cater for such an edge case.
if a user insists on using ardour2 on (say) Debian/buster, they can
download the source from the archives and build it themselves.
(probably a better solution would be to have a virtual machine running
Debian/wheezy, as the ecosystem is changing as well).

Agreed.

I'm pretty swamped with work. I might have time on August 8 to work on
it, but no guarantees.

Mira, are you really out for seven weeks or was this a typo and you
meant to write "days" instead? :) Feel free to move things around
whenever you find time.

Cheers

Hello,

I noticed that a video is broken (truncated).

I tried to detect the breakage with ffmpeg in order to be able to detect
possible breakage of other video files but while ffmpeg prints a frame
error it returns success on finishing encode:

$ ffmpeg -v warning -i /scratch/dwhelper/Mill_CPU_for_Humans_-_Part_2.mp4 -f
null /dev/null ; echo $?
[null @ 0x1554880] Encoder did not produce proper pts, making some up.

Can the error reporting be fixed for programmatic error detection?

Thanks

I disagree with this assessment. Is usually the responsibility of any
new maintainer to contact the old maintainer for any package they want
to salvage/hijack. In this case I made the initial contact as a way to
show that work was actually being done in the package and asked him to
join the Team since help is always appreciated.

Since the other party knew the package was being worked on. It's rude
to upload anything.

Hopefully someone with admin right in the group can help to add him if
he is still interested and there are no objections.

Bug#792997: python-pyo: ship pd-pyo

2015-07-20 Thread IOhannes m zmoelnig
Package: python-pyo
Version: 0.7.5-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

python-pyo upstream includes a Pd-external for using pyo from within Pure Data.
it would be nice if this external could be shipped in a separate package
 "pd-pyo".

caveats: python-pyo currently includes a local copy of m_pd.h, which is very
outdated (taken from Pd-0.41-4).
Instead any external should be build against the headers provided by the
puredata-dev package (the easiest way would probably be to patch pyo~.c to
include instead of "m_pd.h")

The release team is awake and reactive on this:

AFAICS only the upload remains.

did you already coordinate this transition with the release team? What is
the transition tracking bug?

We must not start a transition of this size without coordination, in
particular given that we are aware of a couple of FTBFS. This all needs the
be documented first before we can proceed with uploads to unstable.

Balint, please don't upload this to unstable, experimental would be fine
though.

Bug#792921: [sparc64] linking against libx264 crashes runtime linker

2015-07-20 Thread Andreas Cadhalpun
Package: x264,libc6
Version: x264/2:0.142.2431+gita5831aa-1
Version: libc6/2.19-19
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-sp...@lists.debian.org

Dear Maintainers,

The x264 package on sparc64 is unusable, because linking against
the libx264 library causes the runtime linker to crash:
$ cat main.c
int main () {
return 0;
}
$ rm ./main
rm: cannot remove './main': No such file or directory
$ cc -g -lx264 main.c -o main
$ ./main; echo $?
138
$ gdb --batch -ex r -ex bt -ex q --args ./main

Backtrace stopped: previous frame identical to this frame (corrupt stack?)

I'm not sure what the cause for this crash is, so I'm filing this bug
against both packages. Please reassign as appropriate.

Best regards,
Andreas
