Bug#857193: blender: gpu rendering whit nvidia-cuda-toolkit is not working

2017-03-08 Thread hjmooses
Package: blender
Version: 2.78.a+dfsg0-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This is because nvidia-cuda-toolkit not support gcc-6
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=835940

On a new installed stretch system (not upgraded from jessie) gcc is needet for
gpu rendering
-After installing the gcc package
-Running blender from terminal shows:

ERROR: No supported gcc/g++ host compiler found, but clang-3.8 is available.
Use 'nvcc -ccbin clang-3.8' to use that instead.
CUDA kernel compilation failed, see console for details.

Thank you for maintaining

Hi,

I see in the build logs of the i386 architecture that SSE and MMX
instructions are enabled. This is not supported in debian. I see that
this was enabled in the past but the flag got lost during the conversion
to dh sequences.

This must be disabled on i386. On amd64 this can be kept enable as SSE2 is
supported.

Regards,

Laurent Bigoville

As far as I can tell support for MMX is checked during runtime and the non-MMX
code path is taken if not available. SSE is not used at all.

So unless you can spot some part where it is used unconditionally, this isn't a
bug.

I somehow missed the auto-detection part...

I added the 'confirmed' tags since decklink support is missing indeed.
The 'wontfix' tag also makes sense since we can't fix the issue due
the the license.
I usually don't like closing bugs which still exist, because people would
report them again and again because the archived bugs are not shown by default
on BTS. I consider those bugs to be part of the documentation.

However if you strongly dislike this bug kept open feel free to close it. :-)

Balint
