Don't think of me as the recipient: Think of it as a way to create an
interest group around a narrow, actionable topic.

You raised this as a cross-post on two mailinglists somewhat related to
your topic. Those are good places to seek help, I just imagine it might
be even better if then the detailed discussion happening elsewhere only
among those really interested in that detailed topic (myself included) -
and I offer a way to do that by use of a wishlist bugreport with the
kodi package.

What I imagine is useful is your clues for the puzzle. And a link to
the wiki page you might have created for tracking facts about the
puzzle.

Ideally, cross-posts to multiple lists come with an explicit invitation
to which *single* place to follow up.

Seems to me that ffmeg change is only about speeding up processing (by
making some data paths shorter) - something else needs to provide the
actual codecs.

The GPU package is libgl1-mesa-dri, video decoding is a completely
separate matter, no idea about that but I guess the ffmpeg commit you

Hi! As you might know we the Qt/KDE team are preparing to remove Qt4
as [announced] in:

[announced]

Currently Qt4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have problems
maintaining it, like for example in the [OpenSSL 1.1 support] case.

[OpenSSL 1.1 support]

In order to make this move, all packages directly or indirectly depending on
the Qt4 libraries have to either get ported to Qt5 or eventually get
removed from the Debian repositories.

Therefore, please take the time and:
- contact your upstream (if existing) and ask about the state of a Qt5
port of your application
- if there are no activities regarding porting, investigate whether there are
suitable alternatives for your users
- if there is a Qt5 port that is not yet packaged, consider packaging it
- if both the Qt4 and the Qt5 versions already coexist in the Debian
archives, consider removing the Qt4 version

= Porting =

Some of us where involved in various Qt4 to Qt5 migrations [migration] and we
know for sure that porting stuff from Qt4 to Qt5 is much much easier and less
painful than it was from Qt3 to Qt4.

We also understand that there is still a lot of software still using Qt4.

Don't forget to take a look at the C++ API changes page [apichanges] whenever
you start porting your application.

[migration] http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/packagingqtbasedstuff.html
[apichanges] http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/sourcebreaks.html

For any questions and issues, do not hesitate to contact the Debian Qt/KDE
team at debian-qt-...@lists.debian.org

The removal is being tracked in

Lisandro,
on behalf of the Qt4 maintainers

Package: blender
Version: 2.78.a+dfsg0-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This is because nvidia-cuda-toolkit not support gcc-6
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=835940

On a new installed stretch system (not upgraded from jessie) gcc is needet for
gpu rendering
-After installing the gcc package
-Running blender from terminal shows:

ERROR: No supported gcc/g++ host compiler found, but clang-3.8 is available.
Use 'nvcc -ccbin clang-3.8' to use that instead.
CUDA kernel compilation failed, see console for details.

Thank you for maintaining

Closing.

You read me wrong.

My patch allows us to _fix_ this bug without cordinating with upstream.

My patch does not, however, relieve us of our duty to _inform_ upstream
of the underlying bug that it fixes.

Felipe stated that _fixing_ the bug _requires_ us to involve upstream,
and I disagree with (only) that.

Correction: Debian Kodi is built with --enable-gles on
armel/armhf/arm64.

I have no experience (yet) running Kodi on arm (be it framebuffer or
X11), but am quite interested in our official package best possible
covering the needs of our users: In case you (or others following along
here) figure out some build configuration tuing needed then please do
not hesitate to file wishlist bugreports :-)

Heck, even if you have only vague dreams like "awww, please get Kodi to
work from framebuffer on Vivante-based armhf devices" you might also
file a (wishlist!) bugreport about that, to have a well-defined place to
collect the details until substantial enough act on it.

are you sure you wanted to say this?

for me it kind of implies that:
- either all users of kodi use it only through the packages provided
(and patched) by Debian.
- or any other users are not affected by the security concerns of using
http:// (e.g because only the http-implementation provided by Debian is
susceptible to mitm-attacks)
- or all non-Debian users simply don't deserve a solution for that
security fix.

i cannot agree with any of these points, and i do think that any bug
with severity "grave" that is not specific to Debian should be forwarded
to upstream to be solved there (well, actually *any* bug that is non
Debian-sepcific, not just the grave ones) .

Package: unicap
Version: 0.9.12-2
X-Debbugs-CC: wzss...@gmail.com

This package has one or more -L/usr/lib in its build system,
which will make it ftbfs if there is libraries under /usr/lib,
while is not the default architecture, mips* for example.

On mips* systems, /usr/lib is defined as place to hold O32
libraries, and /usr/lib32 for N32, and /usr/lib64 is for N64.

Beside the way, on the multiarch system like Debian, user may install
libraries under /usr/lib by hand.

Please use the default search path if you can, and please consider fix
this.

I will try to fix this bug, while if you can help to fix it,
It will be very appreciative.

The attachement is the buildlog of this package on mips64el platform.

this seems to have been fixed with
unicap_0.9.12+repack20150328.0.git2c600ae-1
(at least: the mips, mipsel & mips64el succeeded and i haven't found a
trace of "-L/usr/lib". instead it now uses "-L/usr/lib/"
which i guess is the right thing.)
