Yes, ones that have not been uploaded for a long time, or with uscan errors are a good start. Ones that you use (and know well) are also a good idea. This query will pick up which ones on the team have a maintainer that has gone missing: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?maint=pkg-multimedia-maintainers%40lists.alioth.debian.org;tag=mia-teammaint;users=m...@qa.debian.org It is best to check with the current maintainer before starting, just in case they were about to do something, or have some half finished work (or just as a courtesy). > > I'm subscribed to pkg-multimedia-maintainers, pkg-multimedia-commits, > I have an Alioth account, I'm kind of familiar with the technical side > of managing bugs (but less with the policy, e.g. are bugs closed when > fixed in unstable, testing or stable?), I agree to review other's > patches and packages although I think others probably know better than > me. > If you let me know your Alioth user name, I can add you to the team. Generally we upload to unstable. If the upload fixes a bug, we close the bug with suitable text in the changelog, and the bug will automatically closed (like the ITP bug for parlatype). After a time, and some automatic checks, the package will migrate to testing automatically (parlatype has one more day to go). Only for serious or critical bugs would we upload to stable. There is more about this in: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/index.en.html I always find Raphael Hertzog's guide to bug triage really useful: https://raphaelhertzog.com/2011/09/16/how-to-triage-bugs-in-the-debian-bug-tracking-system/ > Like most humans I have limited free time, my contributions would be > occasional but I'm confident that both the team and me would benefit > from membership. Also guilty! Welcome to the team. Just ask here for help with our packages, and for general Debian packaging/bug questions, I recommend Debian Mentors. Actually, I recommend using Mentors anyway until you have a few uploads under your belt because other newcomers benefit from the answers to your questions. If you want me to create the repository on Alioth for parlatype for you, just let me know. Request to join the team
Dear Debian Multimedia Maintainers, I'd like to join the team to help with packaging and also to get some help with my own package. I'm the upstream author and maintainer of Parlatype which was kindly reviewed by Juhani Numminen and Ross Gammon and sponsored by Ross. It would be nice if it could be included in pkg-multimedia-maintainers. I have some knowledge in C (in combination with GObject/GTK+), autotools and a bit of Python. I learned it myself, I didn't visit a technical school or university. I used to package my own program for a while (for private/learning purposes and in launchpad). I started originally with Ubuntu, now my primary distro is Debian stable (actually still oldstable) and unstable next to it. I'm familiar with git, but I didn't use it for packaging yet, so the workflow of git-buildpackage is new for me. I'd like to help with some "easy" packages for the start, small applications, no libraries. I spotted some of them, for example devede. I also noticed a lot of packages with uscan errors which seems like a good task for the start. I'm subscribed to pkg-multimedia-maintainers, pkg-multimedia-commits, I have an Alioth account, I'm kind of familiar with the technical side of managing bugs (but less with the policy, e.g. are bugs closed when fixed in unstable, testing or stable?), I agree to review other's patches and packages although I think others probably know better than me. Like most humans I have limited free time, my contributions would be occasional but I'm confident that both the team and me would benefit from membership. Intent to join the pkg-multimedia Team
Hello all, I would like to join the pkg-multimedia Team to facilitate maintenance of the "mma" (ITP #655441) and probably "linuxband" (RFP #799331) packages for Debian. Some other music-related packages that I have maintained include lilypond (1997 to 2003) and frescobaldi (2014 to present). I serve as a volunteer as a volunteer organist at a local parish, so these tools are very helpful to me. Since frescobaldi is maintained with the python-apps-team (as it was before I took over its maintenance), I was about to upload "mma" with the python-apps-team, but then discovered pkg-multimedia, and saw that how csound, which to me is somewhat similar to mma, is maintained with pkg-multimedia. I finally realized that mma is already inside the pkg-multimedia Git repository, for several years no less! I have just uploaded mma (15.01-1) to ftp-master, and would like to push my changes to ssh://git.debian.org/git/pkg-multimedia/mma.git , and that's how I've arrived here. :-) Many thanks! Hi all, I have been subscribed to this list for some time now and I would like to join the pkg-multimedia-maintainers group. Sometime ago I packaged shotdetect, a recommendation of advene, and I would like to maintain this package within the group. Olivier Aubert, maintainer of the advene package, is also interested in shotdetect. The package has recently been uploaded to Debian stable by Thorsten Alteholz. I just uploaded my git repository on github: https://github.com/giuliopaci/shotdetect so you can have a look at it. I also packaged these other tools that may be of interest to this group: http://mentors.debian.net/package/sptk http://mentors.debian.net/package/spro Although they will probably need some clean up. In addition to that I'd like to work on getting the remaining packages that d-m.o has and Debian doesn't into the archive. I had planned to start with devede, but that just got done. Hi pkg-multimedia members. I'm Cyril Lavier, a 25 years old system administrator from France. I would like to join the team to co-maintain the audacious and audacious-plugins packages as Benjamin Drung proposed me on the bug #639374. I have been working on Debian/Ubuntu packages since 2006, becoming Ubuntu Member in 2007. My involvement in the Debian project is more recent, as I started backporting packages at mid-2011 (nginx and audacious). And now, I help Kartik Mistry maintaining nginx packages. I'm familiar with the BTS, I would be pleased to contribute to this project and help on packages/issues. Looking forward to work with you. Re: Invitation to join the Debian Multimedia Maintainers team
Hi Alessio, I've figured out the alioth SSH issues. Now I have a question about the build process: I have some changes which I merged into UPSTREAM.trunk. Now I want to package them as a new release. Normally I would use git-buildpackage to automatically generate a .orig tarball from my upstream branch. But with this workflow I'm only modifying the upstream branch by doing a git-import-orig, so I need to get a tarball before I run git-buildpackage at all. Is there another way to easily turn a commit on UPSTREAM.trunk into a source tarball ready for import into upstream? When you feel comfortable with a certain state of things, please keep in mind what follows: * Use the capitalized form UPSTREAM/%(version)s to mark commits in your trunk branches in order to avoid conflicts with the upstream/%(version)s used when importing the new release into the upstream branches. * After tagging a new release, please create a tarball and follow the procedure described in our wiki: git-import-orig --pristine-tar ../$(PACKAGE)_$(RELEASE).orig.tar.gz Please don't forget the --pristine-tar option (which is set by default in the debian/gbp.conf config file, though), it is needed to avoid downloading stuff from the Debian archive at build time. For any question or if you don't like this way, let me know! Re: Invitation to join the Debian Multimedia Maintainers team
Hi Jonas and Alessio, I was concerned about the extra commits in the git repository firing off messages, but I realize it's probably only certain branches triggering this. Alessio, in the workflow you described, the upstream.trunk branch is what I was referring to as intermediate packaging work I have an account on alioth (jeremysalwen-guest) and I requested to join the team a little while ago, but I haven't been accepted yet. as for I have asked you to remove the debian directory at least from the release tarballs just to save some KiBs. I wasn't aware the dir was included. I'll try to fix that in the future. I'll try to set up the git repositories properly once I have a change. There's this project I'm working on that I'm really pushing to finish right now, so I'll probably be inactive for a few more days. I have asked you to remove the debian directory at least from the release tarballs just to save some KiBs. 1. upstream work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository There wouldn't be any particular problem for me. A good workflow may be: 1. Work on upstream side by committing the changes into a new upstream.trunk branch. 2. Once the sources are ready to be released: a. Merge upstream.trunk into upstream and tag the latter properly (upstream/%(version)s). b. Prepare an orig.tar.gz, commit it into the pristine-tar branch c. Merge upstream into master. 2. intermediate packaging work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository I fail to catch the point: what does intermediate packaging work mean? 3. it would be okay to have the github and pkg-multimedia repositories sync up. (or at least share commits). There would no need to set up such a sync if you follow that workflow I drafted above. 4. Am I supposed to have write access to these repositories, or is that reserved for DDs? You'd just need to have an account on Alioth and join the team. Sounds sensible to me. 1. upstream work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository Debian in general has no rules against above described packaging style. The purpose of rules/guidelines specifically for this team is to avoid making collaboration too hard. I am unaware if this team disallow/discourage above described packaging style in particular - seems to me to be an elegant _extension_ to our common style. 2. intermediate packaging work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository Not sure I understand what you mean here. 3. it would be okay to have the github and pkg-multimedia repositories sync up. (or at least share commits). As long as you do that syncing yourself, not expect others to do it (or require jumping through special hoops to preserve syncability), I see no problem with that. 4. Am I supposed to have write access to these repositories, or is that reserved for DDs? Yes, membership of this team implies write access to the git area for this team. I suspect this issue really isn't about ongoing packaging style, but misunderstanding about how to bootstrap: I suggest you setup the gits for your packages yourself at the pkg-multimedia area of Alioth - then you can yourself try ensure that it is syncable with github. Beware, though, that gits at Alioth has some hooks attached so as to report to our IRC channel and commit list. Make sure, if you do not use the provided script, that you manually setup the gits properly. Hey Lluis! Its good to have you here! Hi! I'm one of the Mozilla maintainers in Ubuntu and also help maintain the xulrunner rdepends of which 2 are part of this team (mediatomb and vlc). I would like to join so that I can help with the packaging work for these products so that both distros benefit from any updates that I do. I have: Created an alioth account Subscribed to both lists I'm familiar with the bts to some extent and would like to help where I can. I can't commit to a lot at this point and I see the vlc is pretty well taken care of, but would like to get mediatomb updated. Thank you, Micah Gersten ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Request to join pkg-multimedia team on alioth.
Greetings all I'm writing to formally request membership in the pkg-multimedia alioth team. My primary interest in doing so is to help Debian and Ubuntu keep multimedia packages in sync as much as possible. I would also like to keep a branch of Ubuntu's diffs for the jack related packages in the alioth git repo. These changes are minimal at the moment, and I hope they stay that way. I currently maintain j-a-c-k in main for Ubuntu, and plan to get jackd2 and jackd-defaults migrated to main for Maverick. The only diff Ubuntu cufrrently has for j-a-c-k is to drop celt support, due to celt being in universe. Celt was consdered for promotion, however since the API was not considered stable at the time, it was decided to drop support for celt from j-a-c-k. The same diff will be in place for jackd2 once it also makes its way to main. Any more questions, feel free to ask. My alioth username is themuso-guest. Thanks in advance.
