As a member of team you can start work on any package I believe. Yes you
can contact other uploaders to be super-polite but I think it is not
mandatory.

Basically yes ... let someone experienced review your work when ready.
You anyway will need someone to upload as you don't have uploading rights
yet I guess.

There is some help for using git for packaging on our wiki:
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/DevelopPackaging

But I find the Debian GIS Team have the most thorough guide that I have
seen (particularly about setting up & getting started):
http://pkg-grass.alioth.debian.org/policy/index.html

Of course, the documentation on gbp is a pretty good reference as you
get going:
http://honk.sigxcpu.org/projects/git-buildpackage/manual-html/index.html

Yes, ones that have not been uploaded for a long time, or with uscan
errors are a good start. Ones that you use (and know well) are also a
good idea.
This query will pick up which ones on the team have a maintainer that
has gone missing:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?maint=pkg-multimedia-maintainers%40lists.alioth.debian.org;tag=mia-teammaint;users=m...@qa.debian.org
It is best to check with the current maintainer before starting, just in
case they were about to do something, or have some half finished work
(or just as a courtesy).

If you let me know your Alioth user name, I can add you to the team.
Generally we upload to unstable. If the upload fixes a bug, we close the
bug with suitable text in the changelog, and the bug will automatically
closed (like the ITP bug for parlatype). After a time, and some
automatic checks, the package will migrate to testing automatically
(parlatype has one more day to go). Only for serious or critical bugs
would we upload to stable. There is more about this in:
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/index.en.html

I always find Raphael Hertzog's guide to bug triage really useful:
https://raphaelhertzog.com/2011/09/16/how-to-triage-bugs-in-the-debian-bug-tracking-system/

Also guilty!

Welcome to the team. Just ask here for help with our packages, and for
general Debian packaging/bug questions, I recommend Debian Mentors.
Actually, I recommend using Mentors anyway until you have a few uploads
under your belt because other newcomers benefit from the answers to your
questions. If you want me to create the repository on Alioth for
parlatype for you, just let me know.

Request to join the team

2017-11-25 Thread Gabor Karsay

Dear Debian Multimedia Maintainers,

I'd like to join the team to help with packaging and also to get some
help with my own package. I'm the upstream author and maintainer of
Parlatype which was kindly reviewed by Juhani Numminen and Ross Gammon
and sponsored by Ross. It would be nice if it could be included in
pkg-multimedia-maintainers.

I have some knowledge in C (in combination with GObject/GTK+), autotools
and a bit of Python. I learned it myself, I didn't visit a technical
school or university.

I used to package my own program for a while (for private/learning
purposes and in launchpad). I started originally with Ubuntu, now my
primary distro is Debian stable (actually still oldstable) and unstable
next to it. I'm familiar with git, but I didn't use it for packaging
yet, so the workflow of git-buildpackage is new for me.

I'd like to help with some "easy" packages for the start, small
applications, no libraries. I spotted some of them, for example devede.
I also noticed a lot of packages with uscan errors which seems like a
good task for the start.

I'm subscribed to pkg-multimedia-maintainers, pkg-multimedia-commits, I
have an Alioth account, I'm kind of familiar with the technical side of
managing bugs (but less with the policy, e.g. are bugs closed when fixed
in unstable, testing or stable?), I agree to review other's patches and
packages although I think others probably know better than me.

Like most humans I have limited free time, my contributions would be
occasional but I'm confident that both the team and me would benefit
from membership.

Best regards,
Gabor

Yeah, we've worked together for a long time (well, several months
anyway) :) Indeed I believe I have some faults in having it join :P

Re: audacious: I went ahead and uploaded it, following Simon's pressure
as he wanted to have a newer version in Ubuntu's 17.10. I don't quite
understand why it stayed in git without anybody uploading it, but then
again the person doing the updates in git never asked for sponsorship
either…

Ok, cool. In Ubuntu, I've focused on providing security updates for VLC
to all of our stable releases. If I can be of any assistance there, I'll
be more than happy to help (feel free to take my uploads from Ubuntu).

Awesome, Lubuntu ships with this by default (I'm the Lubuntu Release
Manager) and I would like to get a more up-to-date version in 17.10, but
let's see if I can get it in before Feature Freeze. ;)

Hi Simon,

was switched off because we are about to move to something based on
Gitlab soon. But it seemed to work anyway.

Vlc already has many uploaders listed, but most of the recent work has

anything. There are probably lots of bugs that need triaging as a start.

Audacious looks like it could do with some love. So feel fee to get

If you need help with basic packaging skills, I recommend using Debian
Mentors (https://mentors.debian.net/intro-maintainers), although we have

Yes - welcome to the team.

I have added your packages to the Multimedia Blends page, and they
should eventually appear here:
http://blends.debian.org/multimedia/tasks/drums

Your ITP bug for dgedit did not really contain any information about the
package (other than it was needed for drumgizmo to be in main). So I
grabbed some words about the package from the upstream website. Feel
free to use & improve on these words for your real debian/control
package description.

Some other music-related packages that I have maintained include
lilypond (1997 to 2003) and frescobaldi (2014 to present).
I serve as a volunteer as a volunteer organist at a local parish,
so these tools are very helpful to me.

Since frescobaldi is maintained with the python-apps-team (as it was
before I took over its maintenance), I was about to upload "mma"
with the python-apps-team, but then discovered pkg-multimedia,
and saw that how csound, which to me is somewhat similar to mma,
is maintained with pkg-multimedia. I finally realized that mma
is already inside the pkg-multimedia Git repository,
for several years no less!

I have just uploaded mma (15.01-1) to ftp-master, and would like to push
my changes to ssh://git.debian.org/git/pkg-multimedia/mma.git ,
and that's how I've arrived here. :-)

Many thanks!

Anthony

The new ipython version needs jsdoc to rebuild its documentation,

Looks good. Some comments on d/copyright: Please just use the short
name and not MIT License (Expat). For Modified BSD License this is
BSD-3-clause. You can also just mention the full text of Expat once in
a stand-alone License paragraph. Also note that the order matters. Currently
the first two paragraphs have no effect and everything has Copyright
2011 Jan Kokemüller and is licensed under Expat:

Multiple Files paragraphs are allowed. The last paragraph that matches
a particular file applies to it. More general paragraphs should
therefore be given first, followed by more specific overrides.
 (from CF-1.0)

For example, d/copyright could look like the following:

Some of the wiki information seems to be outdated. In particular, it
mentions that all packaging is done in
http://git.debian.org/git/pkg-multimedia/ which seems to be not found.
Thus I am humbly asking for advice on how to proceed.

I'll investigate that. Maybe that's consequence of the broken permissions
on alioth some weeks ago.
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?a=project_list;pf=pkg-multimedia does
not seem to list anything and
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/ does not contain any pkg-multimedia
projects.

Here is the current state of affairs for me:

  * I am watching the mailing lists and trying to learn as much as
 possible by following along.

  * I have libebur128 packaged up and ready to go into unstable over
 here: http://mentors.debian.net/package/libgroove
 The packaging repository is currently
https://github.com/andrewrk/libebur128 with the debian/* files in the
debian branch. I am happy to move this to a pkg-multimedia -sanctioned
repository and use the master branch for debian/* files and upstream
branch for upstream as the wiki suggests.

If you want to keep the history of your current packaging repository,
updating it to current team practice is probably the best way. Beside
the branch naming convention, a pristine-tar branch is missing in the
current repo. We can also just create a new repository once the package
is ready to upload by following the steps described in 4.1 of
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/DevelopPackaging (or import the
current package and continue working in pkg-multimedia's repo).

I will start reviewing the current packaging later today.

I would love to do that at some point but I do not think that the software

http://git.debian.org/git/pkg-multimedia/ which seems to be not found.
Thus I am humbly asking for advice on how to proceed.

Here is the current state of affairs for me:

 * I am watching the mailing lists and trying to learn as much as
possible by following along.

 * I have libebur128 packaged up and ready to go into unstable over
here: http://mentors.debian.net/package/libgroove
The packaging repository is currently
https://github.com/andrewrk/libebur128 with the debian/* files in the
debian branch. I am happy to move this to a pkg-multimedia -sanctioned
repository and use the master branch for debian/* files and upstream
branch for upstream as the wiki suggests.

* I also would like to know if pkg-multimedia team is interested in
libgroove, which is also packaged up on mentors and ready to go into
experimental: http://mentors.debian.net/package/libgroove
Since I am also the main upstream developer, the debian/* files are in
the debian branch of the upstream git repository:
https://github.com/andrewrk/libgroove
Again I am happy to move this to a pkg-multimedia sanctioned repository etc.

Any guidance?

hello! I would like to join the pkg-multimedia team

2014-02-11 Thread Andrew Kelley
Hello everyone,

I am Andrew Kelley. Some relevant things I have been working on:

* Contributed to LMMS - http://lmms.sourceforge.net/
* Built a music player app - https://github.com/andrewrk/groovebasin
* Packaged a library for computing the EBU R128 loudness standard:
http://mentors.debian.net/package/libebur128
* Created an audio dispatching library: https://github.com/andrewrk/libgroove
   And packaged it: http://mentors.debian.net/package/libgroove
* Actively contribute to various open source software:
https://github.com/andrewrk
* Contributions to libav - http://www.libav.org/

I have done the requested things:
 * created an alioth account: https://alioth.debian.org/users/andrewrk-guest/
 * subscribed to the pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list
 * subscribed to the pkg-multimedia-commits mailing list
 * I have read the relevant guides FAQs about managing bugs in debian
 * I will do my best to provide useful reviews on others' work

I have not yet contributed any patches to pkg-multimedia, but I hope
to start. I love open source software!

What do you say?

wanting to get more involved in Debian packaging/bug fixing.

I'd also not mind maintaining a possible pd-extended package, or any pd
related packages in the future.

I'm also open to share the workload by maintaining any packages maintained
by the team, however my skills as a packager are still fairly poor, so I'd
like to start small. I'm currently working on bettering those skills, and
am at the point where it seemed like a good time to start actively doing
packaging.

Moreover I never used asterisk and I do not know how much help I can

I often use: audacious youtube-dl
I rarely use: asunder k3b advene lame
In past I also used: clam grip

Most of the other multimedia-related software that I use are or
unpackaged (julius, marytts, spro, audioseg, transcriber, ...) or not
listed in that list (gstreamer, sox, libsndfile, wavesurfer, ...).

Sometime ago I packaged shotdetect, a recommendation of advene, and I
would like to maintain this package within the group. Olivier Aubert,

The package has recently been uploaded to Debian stable by Thorsten

I just uploaded my git repository on github:

I also packaged these other tools that may be of interest to this group:

Although they will probably need some clean up.

My main interests are speech recognition, speech synthesis and audio

No, not at all.

But, please make sure that you find another person in this team that
supports the inclusion of the package. This ensures that even if you

I have been working on Debian/Ubuntu packages since 2006, becoming

My involvement in the Debian project is more recent, as I started

I'm familiar with the BTS, I would be pleased to contribute to this

Re: Invitation to join the Debian Multimedia Maintainers team

2011-12-24 Thread Jeremy Salwen
Hi Alessio,

I've figured out the alioth SSH issues.

Now I have a question about the build process: I have some changes which I
merged into UPSTREAM.trunk. Now I want to package them as a new release.
Normally I would use git-buildpackage to automatically generate a .orig
tarball from my upstream branch. But with this workflow I'm only modifying
the upstream branch by doing a git-import-orig, so I need to get a tarball
before I run git-buildpackage at all. Is there another way to easily turn
a commit on UPSTREAM.trunk into a source tarball ready for import into
upstream?

Introduction and request to join the team along with Blender packaging

2011-12-23 Thread Kevin Roy
Hi pkg-multimedia team members,

My name is Kevin Roy and I actually package Blender in Debian since August
2010.

I'd like to join the team to offer my help and to propose to move Blender
package
from collab-maint git repo to pkg-multimedia git repo, which is underway by
now thanks to Matteo.

I already subscribed to the list pkg-multimedia-maintainers
and pkg-multimedia-commits.
I'm quite familiar with managing bugs in Debian (even if i'm not fond of
BTS ;-) ) and I will be
pleased to help on other packages.

Looking forward to work with you ;-) !

Hi Jonas and Alessio,

I was concerned about the extra commits in the git repository firing off
messages, but I realize it's probably only certain branches triggering this.

Alessio, in the workflow you described, the upstream.trunk branch is what I
was referring to as intermediate packaging work

I have an account on alioth (jeremysalwen-guest) and I requested to join the

as for

I have asked you to remove the debian directory at least from the release
tarballs just to save some KiBs.

I wasn't aware the dir was included. I'll try to fix that in the future.

I'll try to set up the git repositories properly once I have a change.
There's this project I'm working on that I'm really pushing to finish right
now, so I'll probably be inactive for a few more days.

And this isn't bad, you can develop your software the way you prefer,
however the packaging should be reviewed through our git repository.

If you're asking me to remove the debian directories from the upstream
branch, no need, there is no debian directory in the upstream branch.

I have asked you to remove the debian directory at least from the

  1. upstream work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository

There wouldn't be any particular problem for me. A good workflow may be:

  1. Work on upstream side by committing the changes into a new
 upstream.trunk branch.
  2. Once the sources are ready to be released:
   a. Merge upstream.trunk into upstream and tag the latter
 properly (upstream/%(version)s).
   b. Prepare an orig.tar.gz, commit it into the pristine-tar branch
   c. Merge upstream into master.

  2. intermediate packaging work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia
 repository

I fail to catch the point: what does intermediate packaging work mean?

  3. it would be okay to have the github and pkg-multimedia repositories
 sync
up. (or at least share commits).

There would no need to set up such a sync if you follow that workflow
 I drafted above.

  4. Am I supposed to have write access to these repositories, or is that
  reserved for DDs?

You'd just need to have an account on Alioth and join the team.

changelog and tag the commit. I thought this was supposed to be the
layout of debian packages in git.

Sounds sensible to me.

 1. upstream work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia repository

Debian in general has no rules against above described packaging style.

The purpose of rules/guidelines specifically for this team is to avoid
making collaboration too hard.

I am unaware if this team disallow/discourage above described packaging
style in particular - seems to me to be an elegant _extension_ to our
common style.

 2. intermediate packaging work is allowed in the pkg-multimedia
 repository

Not sure I understand what you mean here.

 3. it would be okay to have the github and pkg-multimedia repositories
sync up. (or at least share commits).

As long as you do that syncing yourself, not expect others to do it (or
require jumping through special hoops to preserve syncability), I see no
problem with that.

 4. Am I supposed to have write access to these repositories, or is
 that reserved for DDs?

Yes, membership of this team implies write access to the git area for
this team.

I suspect this issue really isn't about ongoing packaging style, but
misunderstanding about how to bootstrap: I suggest you setup the gits
for your packages yourself at the pkg-multimedia area of Alioth - then
you can yourself try ensure that it is syncable with github.

Beware, though, that gits at Alioth has some hooks attached so as to
report to our IRC channel and commit list. Make sure, if you do not use
the provided script, that you manually setup the gits properly.

Okay fine, You've convinced me. I've subscribed to the mailing lists, but

So,

1. I have an alioth account called jeremysalwen-guest
2. I've subscribed to the mailing lists

4. I'm happy to help anyone when I have the time.

A little about myself:

My name is Jeremy Salwen, and I like to program audio processing software.
When doing audio stuff I mainly write in C, or possibly with a little C++.
In particular, I've written a few simple programs and some plugins, but
mainly I find myself porting other peoples' software to the LV2 plugin
format (which I really like, by the way), As I almost always write software
to scratch a particular itch or interest of mine, I like to think that my
software would be useful to other people, which is why I started getting
involved with packaging my own and other peoples' software for debian. I
use git-buildpackage + quilt to make my packages.

That's All!

 Sounds great!

I feel you (and me too) should not read that too literally. Point is
not that you must be super clever juggling bugreports to work in this

Perhaps we should rephrase that sentence, to not scare off other

No need for daily basis - not at all!

This is a volunteer project, and there is no requirement in this team

work with us once a year I would still be happy to consider you a team
 member! :-D

So honestly, although you've convinced me that I'd be qualified to
join the team, and I'll hang out with you guys and help out when I
have time, I just don't think I could handle being subscribed to the
mailing lists for any substantial amount of time.

If mailinglist traffic level discourages your joining us, then please do
consider to simply setup your mail handling to reroute list traffic to a
separate folder to not get bogged down by it. Point of you joining the
list is not that you are alert and always on duty, but that you
acknowledge the _maintainance_ part of the task of maintaining packages.
And again, the actual amount of devotion is fluid - can once a week or
once a month you pop by, or even more infrequently since we are a team
that can cover for each other. :-)

So all in all, I still think you should consider joining our team.

 A little about myself:

My name is Jeremy Salwen, and I like to program audio processing
software. When doing audio stuff I mainly write in C, or possibly with
a little C++. In particular, I've written a few simple programs and
some plugins, but mainly I find myself porting other peoples' software
to the LV2 plugin format (which I really like, by the way), As I
almost always write software to scratch a particular itch or interest
of mine, I like to think that my software would be useful to other
people, which is why I started getting involved with packaging my own
and other peoples' software for debian. I use git-buildpackage +
 quilt to make my packages.

Sounds cool. In some ways you are a much better fit for this list than
myself.

willing to join pkg-multimedia

2010-10-18 Thread lluis gomez i bigorda

Hi list,

My name is Lluís Gómez i Bigordà, I'm Barcelona based free software
enthusiast, and there I had studies in computer science.

I'm actually working in Hangar, an arts production center, we have a
small lab here helping artists to success on their digital art
projects. We try to use as much free soft as we can :)

I'm a member of PureData community (so, probably some of you already
know me) since 2004, first only like a user but later also as an
externals developer, I have worked or contributed in several pd libraries:

pdp/pidip
	pd_vjtools
http://hangar.org/wikis/lab/doku.php?id=start:puredata_pdvjtools/

pd_opencv http://hangar.org/wikis/lab/doku.php?id=start:puredata_opencv

On the other hand I also develop some other tools as

tss - a gtk gui for (dvgrab + ffmpeg2theora + oggfwd) to make easy live
straming.

http://gollum.artefacte.org/tss/

and some other local stuff for the giss.tv streaming platform and
comunity on which I'm also a member.

i also consider myself an experienced user in Linux multimedia, having
experience on different fields.

Lately I'm geting more and more aware on the importance of the software
maintainment and for that reason I decided to ask you join
pkg-multimedia. Fo sure I can learn a lot on this group and also (I
hope) I can contribute some work-force and a bit of knowledge ... :)

I'm not the man with more time in the world and I don't really know how
much effort I'll need to be useful here but maybe I can try to see how
the things are going on and find my way to contribute . is that ok
for you guys ?

request to join

2010-08-15 Thread Micah Gersten
Hi! I'm one of the Mozilla maintainers in Ubuntu and also help maintain
the xulrunner rdepends of which 2 are part of this team (mediatomb and
vlc). I would like to join so that I can help with the packaging work
for these products so that both distros benefit from any updates that I do.

I have:
Created an alioth account
Subscribed to both lists
I'm familiar with the bts to some extent and would like to help where I
can.

I can't commit to a lot at this point and I see the vlc is pretty well
taken care of, but would like to get mediatomb updated.

Thank you,
Micah Gersten

Excellent, I started to become a bit concerned about mediatomb, so I'm
really glad that you step up to get the package back in shape!

I've just added you as junior developer, welcome to the team!

Request to join pkg-multimedia team on alioth.

2010-07-18 Thread Luke Yelavich
Greetings all
I'm writing to formally request membership in the pkg-multimedia alioth team.
My primary interest in doing so is to help Debian and Ubuntu keep multimedia
packages in sync as much as possible. I would also like to keep a branch of
Ubuntu's diffs for the jack related packages in the alioth git repo. These
changes are minimal at the moment, and I hope they stay that way.

I currently maintain j-a-c-k in main for Ubuntu, and plan to get jackd2 and
jackd-defaults migrated to main for Maverick. The only diff Ubuntu cufrrently
has for j-a-c-k is to drop celt support, due to celt being in universe. Celt
was consdered for promotion, however since the API was not considered stable at
the time, it was decided to drop support for celt from j-a-c-k. The same diff
will be in place for jackd2 once it also makes its way to main.

Any more questions, feel free to ask. My alioth username is themuso-guest.

Thanks in advance.

Luke
