There are problems with Ubuntu Unity Launcher and some other (more exotic) window managers. In particular, you cannot keep the icon in the launcher and start the application from there. Other problems are described here: There is an easy fix for this: Add the following line to the josm.desktop file: It should now look like in the attachment. For reference, the current file in the debian package:
