Package: network-manager
Version: 0.9.8.8

network-manager depends on package `iputils-arping`, which prevents
the cross-platform `arping` package from being installed without
removing network-manager.

If network-manager supported both, then either could be installed.

`arping` runs on many platforms whereas `iputils-arping` runs only on
Linux, thus preventing portable scripting. I'm sure `iputils-arping`
has *some* benefit too, but I don't know what that would be.

Disclaimer: I'm author of `arping`.

Version: 1.11.3-1

NM no longer uses arping, thus closing this bug report:

network-manager (1.11.3-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version 1.11.3
  * Rebase patches
  * Update symbols file for libnm0
  * Drop inetutils-arputils Suggests.
    The ACD functionality of NetworkManager is no longer using arping, so
    the Suggests is no longer useful.
