[Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#839605: network-manager: wireless stuck on "link is not ready"
I'm also experiencing this issue on Debian Stretch, wireless network adapter is 0846:9030 NetGear, Inc. WNA1100 Wireless-N 150 [Atheros AR9271] linux-image-amd64 4.9+80 network-manager 1.6.2-3 The workaround provided above works for me: /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf [device-mac-randomization] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no I hope this can be fixed soon, luckily I had another machine with a working Internet connection, but this will be a showstopper for anyone trying Debian for the fist time and failing to connect to the network. ___ Pkg-utopia-maintainers mailing list Pkg-utopia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-utopia-maintainers

(I am using network-manager 1.6.2-3 on current Debian sid). I had previously discovered another workaround: Using the "old naming scheme" (rather than systemd/udev's new predictable naming scheme) for the Wifi device worked as well for me: After disabling the respective systemd unit "network/99-default.link", the Wifi device gets the name "wlan0" instead of "wlxb0487a89c6ac" (based on the MAC address) and the connection is successfully established when using NetworkManager. This can be achieved by creating an empty file /etc/systemd/network/99-default.link which then overrides sytemd's default options in /lib/systemd/network/99-default.link ___ Pkg-utopia-maintainers mailing list Pkg-utopia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-utopia-maintainers

A solution can be found here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1656444#p1656444 All I needed to get wireless WLAN working, was to add this to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf [device-mac-randomization] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no (You might need more settings, in that case see the link above.) ___ Pkg-utopia-maintainers mailing list Pkg-utopia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-utopia-maintainers
[Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#839605: network-manager: wireless stuck on "link is not ready"
This bug problem is: wlan wireless is not working, dmesg reports"link is not ready", and "Select Network" is not showing the network... It might be related to the new kernel on debian stretch: currently linux kernel 4.7 (4.7.0-1-amd64) A WORKAROUND (thanks to my boss at work) is to specify your wireless network as hidden network. Just do it, even if it is not really hidden. It's the only way I've found, to get it working. So: Click Wi-Fi settings Click Connect to Hidden Network... If your connection is already stored (from before, when it was working), then you'll find the wireless Network name under Connection. Else enter "Network name", "Wi-Fi Security" (typically WPA & WPA2 Personal), "Password". Then it will work. Only then does the network appear under "Select Network"! ___ Pkg-utopia-maintainers mailing list Pkg-utopia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-utopia-maintainers

Package: network-manager Version: 1.4.2-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I'm running Debian Stretch and wireless usb-adapter (which needs firmware-realtek) does no longer work.
