As of revision 12727 all reference to Fortran 77 in our source tree has been removed (except for historical records such as change log files) as discussed previously here. This is quite a historical moment for PLplot since that software was originally written by Sze Tan of the University of Auckland in Fortran 77 back in 1986!
So Fortran 77 is dead; long live Fortran 95! This was an intrusive change with 41 files deleted or edited. I took the opportunity to simplify our build system as much as was allowed by this change. Furthermore, I substantially revised our Fortran DocBook documentation to get rid of all references to Fortran 77. So far I have only tested this change with the test_noninteractive and validate targets for the build tree on Linux. I plan to do more comprehensive testing of this and other recent Tcl and friends changes shortly on Linux using scripts/comprehensive_test.sh. To everybody here with an interest in Fortran (especially Arjen) -- please give Fortran a thorough testing on all platforms accessible to you to make sure I didn't remove anything essential.
