Just my 2p - I'm with Maurice in prefering to keep driver specific
features out of plplot.h . A generic solution is more the plplot way of
doing things - or failing that a separate driver specific header.

Just to let you know that the plplot 5.9.0 packages have finally
migrated into Debian testing, so should be included in the new release.
This is a major update. The last version included in stable was 5.6.1.
The new packages include support for octave 3.0, ada bindings and java
bindings. Also th
Debian and Ubuntu have a lot of PLplot users so it's great those users will
now be getting access to recent PLplot versions because of Andrew's and
Rafael's packaging efforts.
