Replaced LO-5.3.0 with LO-5.1.4.2 and it's seeing all the installed
typefaces and fonts. Whew!

As time allows over the next couple of days I'll incrementally upgrade
versions until I find the newest that works with Slackware-14.1/32-bit.

Have a clear future,

Ed,

Yes, that replacement table is empty here, too.

And this is where I discovered my missing fonts and the strange Indian,
Cambodian, and other typefaces.

Ed,

Many thanks. I had no idea that site existed.

Now I can try one version at a time and see how new is one that runs here.

Also, Tools->Options->LibreOffice->Fonts is the Font replacement table,
not the font available to use table. The replacement table is where you
put mappings for replacing a document's font that does not exist on you
system, for example replace Arial with DejaVu Sans. By default the
replacement table is empty.

The available system fonts to use in documents are listed in the font
tool bar drop down or under Format -> Character (for writer).

You may have to refresh the font cache and restart X. See

The solution is to re-install the -5.1.4 32-bit version. I've asked on the
LO mail list if there's an archive site with older versions; if you have a
copy please contact me and we'll arrange a transfer.

Tomas,

   Perhaps Xfce4 handles it differently.

Anywho, one way or another it works for all of us. :-)

You must have some environment dependency difference - I use this on
various versions of SuSE, SLE, Fedora, Ubuntu all with KDE, LXDE or
Gnome - do not see any frame at full screen mode.
Just tried it on Ubuntu + Unity and YES, as you mentioned, Evince needs
F5 to hide the frame.

[PLUG] LibreOffice upgrade loses typefaces

2017-02-14 Thread Rich Shepard
This morning I upgraded libreoffice from 5.1.x to 5.3.0 and now most of
the typefaces (fonts) I have installed are not available. Instead it looks
like every south and east Asian language fills the list.

Tools->Options->LibreOffice->Fonts displays nothing. Can someone point me
to a solution?

That's odd. On my wide monitor, xpdf centers the slide and puts black
bars on either side.

Thanks, Tom. This is really good to know. Yet, now I know that xpdf's
fullscreen mode also does the job, that's what I'll use.

galen,

xpdf with Xfce4's default window manager. I'll try the
-fullscreen option ...

Well! I'll be dipped! That's exactly what I want. All these years and I've

Joe,

I must have had the 32-bit compatibility libraries installed with 14.1.
I've tried xpdf, mupdf, okular, and evince and they all display the window
frame and any side windows as well as the slides themselves.

Off to AlienBOB's web site to download and install the latest compat libs.

How are you invoking xpdf, and what window manager are you running?
xpdf -fullscreen works for me here under Centos 6.

[PLUG] acroread for 64-bit machines?

2017-02-14 Thread Rich Shepard
My use of Adobe's acrobat reader is infrequent, but good for presentations
showing beamer-class slides. There was no problem that I recall using it
with 14.1, but I'm having issues trying to get a version that works with
14.2.

I have a presentation tomorrow and neither xpdf nor mupdf will display the
LaTeX/beamer slides full screen. The windows are full screen, but not the
PDF file.

Do I need the Slackware 32-bit compatibility libraries to run acroread?
What are other folks using?
