I have a G1 and absolutely love it. The physical keyboard is a little smaller than I would like, but it's not nearly as bad as some I've used. I did also root my phone so it can now do pretty much anything I throw at it. The primary benefits to rooting it are being able to do whatever you want

Your best bet, by far, is to try the ,401# hack. I used that for years with no problems. Obviously, it won't work well (at all) with the wireless USB... so don't use it! Get an approved wired USB adapter and plug it in. You can always return the adapter if you won't need it later. I will
