Oh, BTW I read last week that ubuntu still uses bash for user shells, but
uses dash as a lighter, faster shell for system stuff. I am not sure what
that means other than /bin/sh links to /bin/dash because if I open a
terminal and look at my env, it shows SHELL=/bin/bash.

as if the contents of PIPESTATUS and therefore of pipestat are affected by
things that happened and completed before the execution of the piped
commands. Very puzzling to me! Am I missing something basic?

Seems like a lot of former Sun folks are departing from Oracle. I just read
the primary ZFS developer is also leaving. I do hope that Oracle wll
support the Document Foundation and will assign the OpenOffice rights to
them, but I doubt it will happen. Sad
