Have you tried modifying /boot/grub/menu.lst to do permanent change of Grub boot line? I did that no change. OR You have to find which is your mount point e.g. /dev/hda1 is your / partition then create a symbolic link as below ln -s /dev/hda1 /dev/root try this may this will help you
