I am developing a small application for academic project. I want to know how
I can run this application in pannel as a applet.

You need to be verbose your problem. 
What sort of an application is it?

If you intend to mean (kicker or gnome-panel) you need
to specify what are you using for development of that
small application.

Do please reply in somewhat sane fashion - figuring out what you replied
within the mailing list footer. Now, someone earlier had pointed to some
documentation (although a bit dated) about how to go about creating
applets for GNOME. You might want to read them. Additionally, there's a
fine channel called #gnome-love on irc.gimp.org - make time to land up
there with structured queries and get some answers. Before that however,
do read up existing applets to figure how and what they do.
