I found out source of the spacing issue. I have a Zoom extension on
Brave that was set at 96%. When set at 100% space disappeared

Brave is a chromium fork. I've just installed this in Fedora, and
Material works fine. Again, some weird issue on your system.

I did a Timeshift and Material reverted to version 2.43(or is that the
latest?) and is working now. One thing that I noted and happened in the
past is that Material was partially missing from the list of plugins but
reappeared once I resaved settings under plugins
