Just rename fab4.version to custom.fab4.version and fab4_8.0.1_r16844.bin to custom.fab4.bin. Then update. Worked for me on my radio (baby). Once you are done testing/updated , remove the custom.* files. SC will NOT auto-upgrade new firmware files to the Controller when they are pushed out,
