I think it may be Gentoo specific as ED works OK for Linux for other
users.

I used the Squeezecenter Extension Downloader for the installation; I
did not install AlienBBC myself from the zip file.

AlienBBC v2.5-7.3 plugin via the Extension Downloader.
When I try to play a stream (for example, Guy Garvey's Finest Hour in
BBC 6 Music), I get the following error in
/var/lib/squeezecenter/server.log:

Displaying the BBC program "images" and the station logos for live
(national & regional) stations was one of the small enhancements made
for 2.5. These are best seen on Squeezeplay and SBC.
