Thanks I checked out the LMS tools, but I see now that the official library https://github.com/rajlaud/pysqueezebox is actually gaining a lot more functionality. You can now set the sync state and some other goodies by default and even query if someone can come up with a decent front end:

The media player card had a bit of a revamp a little while ago as well and I think it looks good. Basically it takes the cover art and then uses the colour of it to extend as the background to the rest of the interface. You can see an example at
