James, as always, thank you for your reply. I have made the update mode
change, but i can't find the log file. you said it would in a file in
the playlists directory but i don't see anything.
do you mean in here?
My music
iTunes
Album Artwork
iPod Games
iTunes Music
Mobile Applications
Should be a file called iTunes_Hist.txt in the Playlists directory,
the location of which you can find in Server Settings- Playlist Folder

That's right, so it seems like an issue with iTunes.
I've got iTunes 10 on a laptop, I'll see if I can recreate this...

thanks, James. I turned Direct Update back on and they are still coming
in exactly five hours less than they really played.

Thanks - at least we know that SlimServer's clock agrees with yours!
I need to check how the plugin sets the date, as I recall it just refers to the
'current' time...
What's the timezone on your PC set to?

It would be in settings-advanced-logging.
There should be a huge list of dropdown boxes and one will be
plugin.itunesupdate or something similar.

I set iTunesUpdate logging to Debug, and played a song. Here's the log
file:
[11-01-10 21:08:59.9927]
Plugins::iTunesUpdate::Plugin::startTimingNewSong (1101) Starting a new
song
[11-01-10 21:08:59.9932] Plugins::iTunesUpdate::Plugin::getTrackObject
(1325) Getting Track for URL
From memory, if you're running on Windows with direct updates enabled, the
play time in iTunes is updated to whatever Perl thinks the current time is.
You could enable the debug level logging of iTunesUpdate and check the log
after playing a track - the output may contain some clues?
James
OK. how do you do that? i don't see any options for such in the
iTunesUpdate UI in SqueezeboxServer.

thanks for the response. iTunesUpdate is now working, but the times it
records for last played is off by five hours from my computer time
(it is exactly five hours less than the actual time). what would cause
that?

Sorry, not using iTunes 10 myself.
The plugin stopping working after an iTunes upgrade is a fairly common issue
(on Windows) and reinstallating usually fixes the issue. Seems like it fails to
install the COM components sometimes.
Anyone using iTunes 10 without issues?
James
I've been using iTunesUpdate for years -- it's my favorite SlimServer
(now SqueezeBox server) plugin -- and I recently discovered with major
disappointment that it doesn't appear to be working with iTunes 10.
It's been working on this computer since i got it a year ago, and i
just discovered
I reinstall iTunesUpdate and now it seems to be working, but oddly the
date last played field is off by exactly five hours (it records a
time that is five hours less than the computer's time).
