You could use "aplay" for sounds.
Also, look at the Touch, I *think* it uses a Wolfson WM8974 (mono) DAC
for sounds.

Certainly it is fine using multiple servers on different systems/VMs.
One possible drawback is that players might migrate to the server that
they can see ... but not usually a problem if you leave the servers
running all of the time.
If you would find time, even this looks exotic to you, it would be
hightly appreciated, cause things are getting unworkable.
Just thinking something like "player names that start with _ are ignored
in the list"
Is it stable to use multiple servers?

We all appreciate your work here Michael,
Development of LMS ended yonks ago. Nobody is going to be adding this
kind of feature to it, or Squeezlite.

Michael was simply pointing out that if you have two machines in your
network running LMS then you can select which Squeezelite connects to
which LMS. No software development required.
Where does to code has to be changed? If it could be changed within the
squeezelite files itself, this would be ideal.
Further, could you elaborate more about a second LMS? The need for 2
instances squeezelite instances on the pi itself is for player thru the
same speaker.
Now what I would like to have is that the "sounds" players do not show
up on the list of available players. Is there a certain why to
accomplish this?
Not without a code change.
Unless you run two instances of LMS, one for the "real" players, the
other for the sounds.

Hi,
I'm using a multiroom multi instance squeezelite - LMS, meaning I use
instance for playing music, etc and 1 instance for doorbell sound,
announcements.
Within the players list at this point I see offcourse all players. So
livingroom & kitchen, bathroom, hallway, etc and sounds livingroom &
