I have done a bit more digging. I have zero experience with Linux so I

Just to let you know, I'm facing a similar issue with Spotty v4.8.4 in
Connect mode. It has for months stopped playing occasionally, but
recently it has got much worse and now rarely plays more than one
track.
I'm running LMS v 7.9.2 on amd64 on Debian.
