Hi erland, thanks for coming back. I still have a few questions! You
say it will switch between all views in manage screens but I can delete
or hide them, how? I only have the 3 default screens here, but do not
know how to delete or hide them. Sorry if it is obvious!

Also I have a screen configuration directory and a screen templates
directory specified but they are not being used. The Screen
configuration directory is still set to the default (the files didn't
move when I changed this) and the template directory doesn't work as
when I hit 'Download latest version of existing screens' in /Manage
Screens it tells me I must specify a templates directory.

Cheers

This doesn't seem to work for me either. I have the Screen

Any ideas?

It might be some refresh issue, try restarting SBS if you haven't done
so already.

Thanks. I can see the options in the Classic skin, ta.

With regarding the screen configuration screen, if I set one in the
player settings then after a restart all screens *but* that one display!
Obviously I can work around this (but setting the name against the 2 I
don't want) but I thought you might want to fix it!

If I remember correctly it should show all screens with the same group
as the player plus all screens without any group. Is this how it behaves

guiness;499346 Wrote:
Is there an ideal or recommended suite of power settings I should use

After just having seen Morgan Freeman's portrayal of Nelson Mandela in
Invictus, I'm tempted to answer, Yes, but the ideal always involves
some kind of accommodation to to competing interests.

Let's discuss the general problem first. Since my own practice is to
run a low-power dedicated headless server for SqueezeCenter / Squeezebox
Server, I don't have a generic template to offer you at the moment.
But, as you are hardly alone in needing this, I'm motivated to give this
some thought.

There are two problems here: if you use the operating system's power
saving facilities, that accommodates your needs as a user on your
machine. However, it doesn't accommodate SBS's needs. SBS's
windows-only PreventStandby plugin is supposed to solve this problem on
that platform. But we've seen one report here that it doesn't seem to
be working with Windows 7.

If you turn off your OS's power saving stuff and start using
SrvrPowerCtrl to control power states, that accommodates SBS, but not
your needs as a user on your machine. SrvrPowerCtrl will merrily put
your machine into standby right when you're in the middle of crafting
that perfect, Pulitzer-winning sentence or just as you're about to
execute that fortune-making options trade. Not good.

I've made a stab at splitting the difference by providing a not-idle
script execution mechanism in SrvrPowerCtrl. But the few folks using it
seem to have problems with it, so perhaps my implementation is flaky.
On OS X, I've also tried going the other way by providing scripts that
block SrvrPowerCtrl's actions while the user is logged in. But, again,
that seems like a half-measure to me.

An approach that seems closer to the ideal to me would be to beef up
the PreventStandby plugin so that it (really) works with Windows, OS X
and Linux. I suggested some modifications that made it into the
PreventStandby a year ago that keep a Windows-based SBS server awake
after 2 minutes following a WOL. This had been an intermittent problem
with some windows machines.

So, perhaps it's time for me to dust off the ReallyPreventStandby code
and make it generic for all OSs. Once I get something that is working,
I'll most likely remove the not-idle execution support from
SrvrPowerCtrl.

And to directly answer your question: Yes, there is an ideal, but it
lies in the future. If you don't mind, I'll PM you and post here when I
have recommendations and code for you to try out.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Freenas/Slimnas installation problem

2009-12-27 Thread MrSums

Just created a new Freenas server and followed the instructions to
install slimnas. Seemed to have been successful and extensions tab
created.

Went into Sqeezebox Server tab and enabled it. In the middle box I
now have There's no Squeezebox Server installation file available.
Please download the latest archive and store it in your SlimNAS
installation folder using your preferred method (Windows share, FTP,
etc.).

In my slimnas folder on the Freenas box I have put three different
versions of the sqeezecenter-7.x.x-noCPAN.tgz files, but for some reason
these are not being seen. The slimnas.tgz file seems to be ok as there
is a checkbox available for that.

I am putting the files onto the Freenas server via a Linux box and the
tgz appears correctly on the end of the files. The files have the same
owner:group and permissions as the sliimnas.tgz file

Can't understand this, would appreciate some help

Thanks

Robert

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: KidsPlay 2.4.0: per-player button macros

2009-12-27 Thread peterw

I've just released version 2.4.0 of KidsPlay. There are some UI
improvements, but the biggest change is that KidsPlay now allows you to
define per-player macros -- so the a button can do different things on
different players.

Users of Squeezebox Server 7.4 should see KidsPlay 2.4.0 in the all
3rd party plugins area in the next hours/day. Others or anyone who's
impatient can get it from 'its main web site'
