It's (very) strange you have to transcode to flac but no, nothing is
saved, it's all on-the-fly

Thanks for this! I’m now casting to my chromecast enabled speaker, from
Volumio LMS plug-in and works like a charm!

But I had to chose transcode to FLAC. I just want to know if the
transcode data gets saved? Or it’s only temporary? Should I be worried
for space? It’s on a 64GB micro SD.

Thanks for the additional information. The external USB drive is for my

And, if I do want to play my music files, can I just use a 32 or 64 GB

For the music itself, use an external USB drive. If you have an old SSD
drive, you could get a cheap enclosure for it and it can actually be USB
powered.

That's correct, I can log in or out & the changes are reflected in the
sprocket.prefs file. The problem is in accessing my podcast list.

I'd endorse this approach. I moved away from running LMS on a PC years
ago for exactly the reason you're finding. I moved it to a NAS, but
performance was never great. I moved to a Pi using piCorePlayer with
LMS a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. Fast to boot, speedy
operation, and just keeps running. Mine lives under the stairs, with a
direct network connection to my my switch, but it can just as easily run
via Wi-Fi.

All you need is to buy a Raspberry Pi 4B 2GB RAM (you don't need the
larger memory), a power supply, and a micro SD card. While you don't
need a case or heatsink for what you'd be using it for, an 'Aluminium
Armour'
heatsink case is a cheap/great solution.

'docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to' (https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to)
tells you, step by step, how to set up piCorePlayer and then how to
install LMS on it. If you follow each step, it's really pretty easy.
