Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Use inguz to boost Bolder modded SB3 output?

2010-02-13 Thread Curt962

Go into the Inguz .config file. You'll find the default gain setting
at -16, and by increasing this value in small increments (1 or 2 at a
time) you could increase output.

It's not a completely free lunch however, as clipping will be a concern
and this sounds horrible. Pay attention to the log.txt file, and any
clipping will be registered there.

Good Luck

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Use inguz to boost Bolder modded SB3 output?

2010-02-13 Thread Curt962

Excellent! Just monitor your log.txt file periodically and note any
ocurrences of clipping. You may yet find that a bit of gain reduction
is necessary.Better still, if you could get a test CD with some 0db
noise you could set your gain quite accurately. If you aren't clipping
with that...you never will.

Perhaps somebody here has a test file they could send you.???

I'm glad it worked out for you. This is the only free improvement
you will ever receive in audio. ;)

Best Regards.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz/DRC or Hardware solution?

2010-02-11 Thread Curt962

They're practically giving that stuff away... ;);)

A DEQ2496 will be here in a few days to play with,
and I'll put it in my TPs effects loop via TOSlink. Sean
has suggested in the past to avoid AES/EBU connection although
I do have appropriate cables to allow that as well.

Its worth a shot anyway. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz/DRC or Hardware solution?

2010-02-07 Thread Curt962

Thanks Toby...I'll take a look at the DRC mailing list.

As for the attentuation issue, it really seems to only manifest itself
as a problem when DRC is active. As stated earlier, this then requires
me to reduce the gain in the Inguz config files to -21 or -22 just to
miminize (not eliminate) the clipping.

Conversely, when Inguz EQ (only) is runningI can stay at the
default -16, and even with some crazy boosts and cuts (just to see what
happens) the clipping issue is rarely recorded in the log file.

Looking at the correction .wav file used by DRC, there is really only
one bad spot to contend with (a large peak at 51hz).It would seem
that since the DRC then tries to reduce gain at this
frequency...clipping would be the least of my worries.
Apparentlysomething else is going on that causes the global gain
of the total DRC process to be much higher that I think...
Interesting!!

I hope that the hardware will allow me to do a bit of strategic
sculpting in the range below 300hz or so. Just trimming down some
peaks mind you...not trying to fill in any 100db nulls. ;)

Thanks again for the inputs!! I appreciate your suggestions!

Curt

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz/DRC or Hardware solution?

2010-02-06 Thread Curt962

Thanks Richard.

I took a look at the Acourate website, and they do have a 30 day trial
of a limited version of their system. The normal version still
carries the $500 price tag from what I gather.

Couldn't hurt the try the free one...if/when I can work up the courage
to take on another piece of software with a near-vertical learning
curve. ;)

Has anyone had good results with Denis S's DRC V3.0? Version 3.1
was a bust for me. I might give that a whirl next if it's worth the
effort.

I see some great potential for the DRC systems available, and if
nothing else, the education one gets from the experimentation is
valuable. Having a better understanding of what happens when sound
emanates into a room will always move one closer to having the best
sound possible in a given space...DRC or not.

The saga continues

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz/DRC or Hardware solution?

2010-02-04 Thread Curt962

Thank you for the inputs. I've read a bit about the Audyssey system,
and it seems that it is only offered through professional installers.
Given that I can't even get the repairman to fix the leak in my wash
machine, it's only fair to say that I'm a bit gun shy regarding
professionals. ;)

(Never mind the sense of shame I'd feel having to PAY someone to smooth
out my room response)

A bit disappointing in a way. The basic Inguz package works really
well, and seems totally transparent. If there were a limitation, it is
the octave band equalization that perhaps paints the bass region with a
rather broad brush. Not a fault of Hugh's offering.that's how
octave band eq works.

DRC has a certain appeal, but sends the system into clipping with
certain CDs thus requiring the Inguz config file gain be set to
exceedingly low levels. Great for late, late, late night
listeningwhen you don't want ANYONE to hear the music. Including
yourself.

It'd be nice to see what DRC would do if I could limit the band in
which it operates. Perhaps limit it to 1000hz or less. Some people
claim to do this, but I haven't a clue how.Nobody ever explains that
part.

The hardware solution, at least in the case of the Behringer has it's
own appeal.I can keep it in the Transporter's effects loop, totally
in the digital realm, and it works with all source material. Streaming
or otherwise. Further, it isn't vulnerable to being rendered inop by
the next Squeezecenter version.

It might be worth a shot to at least TRY the hardware option. I can
always unhook it if I'm unsatisfied.Given that the DEQ costs about
the same as 12 of exotic AC power cord...I could absorb the hit if it
comes right down to it. :):):)

I appreciate the comments thus far, and I hope some more folks will
chime in with their ideas, and how THEY did it.

Always willing to listen

Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz/DRC or Hardware solution?

2010-02-03 Thread Curt962

Maybe I'm not in the right forum for this, but I'll try anyway!

I've spent the last several weeks experimenting with the Inguz DRC
for room correction. (Many thanks to member Merlinwerks for his
guidance, and endless patience!!) Nonetheless, I was completely
unsatisfied with the results obtained with version 3.1 of DRC (a
noticeable recessed, dry hollow sound).

Using DRC 2.6.2 gave a much better result, and I really felt as though
the bass mid-bass regions were better defined, etc. I spent quite a
lot of time positioning my speakers/subs for a decent, albeit not
perfect response in my room. And yes, there are a number of sound
treatment panels dispersed about the room as well to help with first
reflection points, etc.

A problem arises with signal clipping which has required me to reduce
the gain in the Inguz config file to -21 or -22 to avoid clipping.
Fine for THOSE specific CDs, but most others then playback at
astonishingly low levels. That's not really satisfactory either.

Further, the Inguz/DRC does not work with WMA lossless files, nor is it
of any use when streaming audio from Rhapsody during casual listening.

I guess my question is: Is there a way through this? Oris a
hardware solution perhaps a better idea?

The Behringer DEQ2496 inserted in my Transporter's digital effects loop
would seemingly perform many of the same functions, AND work with
whichever source I choosenot just that music which is stored on my
computer in .WAV or FLAC format.

I can't write the check for a Lyngdorf, or any other $5K+ solution, nor
would I want to when all I want is a bit of targeted adjustment in the
bass mid-bass range. A $300 Behringer seems like a reasonable
alternative, and perhaps even more so when used strictly in the digital
domain.

What say you? I would appreciate any guidance the folks here might
have to offer. If I can do it all with Inguz/DRCthat's great.
If not, I'm open to alternatives.

Many thanks in advance for your insights...

Curt962

2010-02-03 Thread Curt962

Thanks for the reply. No, I have not tried Proxied Streaming on my TS
set up. In all honesty...I don't even know what that does.

It'd be nice to at least have my Inguz working on streaming audio.

That experiment will have to wait several days, as I'm on the opposite
side of the countryfar far away from my audio system.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz and 7.4

2010-01-08 Thread Curt962

Per Matt B's suggestion, I reloaded the Inguz EQ DSP files. As it
turns out, I was already running Inguz Ver. 09.32 when things decided to
stop on 1/05.

I've checked everything, including the Skarpa edits, and all appears to
be in order.

Here's a short snippet from my log.txt file:

20100105213633: InguzDSP (version 0.9.32) -id 00:04:20:10:0f:08 -wav
-wavo -d 24
20100105213633: 00:04:20:10:0f:08 Gain -16 dB
20100105213633: 00:04:20:10:0f:08 Impulse (null), matrix (null)
20100105213633: 00:04:20:10:0f:08 EQ0020582F26
20100105213633: 00:04:20:10:0f:08 24/88200 PCM = 24/88200 PCM
TRIANGULAR, gain -16 dB
20100108200113: InguzDSP (version 0.9.32)
20100108200113: -id must be specified.

As you can see, all was running fine until 1/05.All I get today
(1/08) is the log file that says -id must be specified.

Now I'm lost.

Any help I can get is appreciated.

Curt

I'd be one to add my name to the list of those petitioning Logitech for
the inclusion of some basic EQ functions to the devices affected.

I paid a lot of money for my Transporter (as did you), and I like it

such as EQ/BALANCE are omitted...leaving unsupported 3rd party software
to do the grunt work for us.

Logitechsh1tcan the newest Facebook app update, and give me
