I had it working via the LMS stream.mp3 route but it was not very
reliable and appeared to be not very repeatable when others tried the
same thing. Maybe one day Amazon will publish another API to achieve
this or perhaps implement a UPnP-AV renderer but I suspect not.

AFAIK it is simply firing commands at your LMS.
In broad terms, if you can achieve it from LMS web interface then there
is a good chance that this “skill” can do it.
It is not controlling the Alexa device as a media player.

In Putty ... put the mouse cursor at the start of the text to copy and
then hold left button down and drag over the area to copy ... then let
go of the mouse button you should find that the text is in the copy

I think what castalla is referring to is getting the x part after a
restart of the ngrok application (e.g. on reboot) when using a free

I think that my suggestion (edit config file) would allow a browser

Presumably it would also be possible to find it from the ngrok service
web site as well.

I suspect that it is not possible without restarting ngrok.
Sometimes applicatins support reloading configuration by sending them a
SIGHUP ... but this very old (and perhaps outdated) bug report says that
it is not possible.

Can you run a web browser from the machine that it is running on

Another route that might work would be to run a proxy web server on the

My guess is that it is only listening on 127.0.0.1 by default ... try
something like
web_addr: 0.0.0.0:4040
in the ngrok config file
to tell it to listen on all IP addresses.
I presume that this is a safety feature so you should search to see if
it is acceptable (e.g. you probably do not care if anyone on your local
LAN can access it).

Using the 3.5mm audio jack socket on the RPi will have a lower sound
quality ... but if you still have your RPi3 and IQaudIO card available
then hook it up as well and listen to both and see if you can hear the
difference.

If you can't hear the difference then it does not really matter.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce - Song info plugin for FIP radio

2019-09-29 Thread Paul Webster

0.1.27 29-Sep-2019

Inconsistent use of metadata across stations so use different way to
show track names when inside a programme like Jazz A Fip

The way that metadata for FIP was provided meant that it was not always
easy to spot the difference between a programme and a song ... so
sometimes the show details were provided even when the metadata did
contain song info somewhere else.
So for Jazz A Fip and Live A Fip it meant that sometimes only the
programme name was ever shown.
However, this behaviour was not consistent because Radio France is
inconsistent in how the data is set.

So - now modified it to say that if this "song" is long then it is
probably a programme so the search continues to see if there is a song
available further down in the data. This might mean that a very long
track on France Musique is identified as a programme but even then it
should bring back the right sort of data for most of the fields (title,
artist, cover art).

I could have done this by not checking the date/time in the data and
instead using the record that the metadata says is Now Playing ... but
history has shown that this field is not always accurate and checking
the date/time brings back more reliable info.

2019-07-15 Thread Paul Webster

Try the BBC URL that is in the logs from a regular browser on the same
LAN.
It should bring back data (does for me).
If you get a 404 error or a "not found" message from BBC then you have a
way to reproduce the issue locally and the next steps will be to try to
work out why it is happening.

I wonder if Spotify checks the client id/signature if there is one.

Arguably they could check that the play is from a set of trusted apps
before incrementing song stats.

This could, perhaps, protect them against bad actors reporting plays
that never really happened and trying to profit from it somehow.

I would be really surprised if players could tell Spotify not to include
a track in the stats.
Does playing one of those tracks when using native Spotify increment the

Are you using the artist's Spotify account when playing? (they might not
count self plays)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty will not install on LMS

2019-06-16 Thread Paul Webster

There are a couple of significant errors in there - both related to
handling zip files ... and plugins are distributed as a zip compressed
archive.
So - fixing those issues will probably resolve it.

Code:

Slim::Utils::PluginDownloader::extract (102) error loading Archive::Zip
Compress::Raw::Zlib object version 2.066 does not match bootstrap parameter
2.033 at /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/Compress/Raw/Zlib.pm line 98.
  Compilation failed in require at
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/Archive/Zip.pm line 11.

Looks like a version mismatch ... either system wants 2.066 and 2.033 is
what is found ... or the other way around!

I do not know the specifics of how to resolve that on ReadyNAS - but I
am sure that there are a few here who will be able to.

Trying again with a variation suggestion that was rejected a few days
ago ...
If there was a server-wide setting that said that compilation albums
should show artist image (if present) for each track in preference to
album image then I think it would handle my earlier suggestion regarding
.cue files ... assuming the scanner could determine that the album is a
compilation .. e.g. more than 3 tracks with different artist names.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2019-05-16 Thread Paul Webster

A thought ... I have a number of .mp3 files that have multiple tracks in
the file and have a .cue file to go along with it.
There is a folder.jpg in the same directory as the .mp3/.cue - and this
is what LMS show when a track (correctly named from the .cue file) is
playing.

Think of the .mp3 / .cue as representing a radio show.

I think it would be good to be able to see the artist image if there is
one available for the track that is playing and not always the
folder.jpg - it could show the folder.jpg if no artist image found for
the current track.

My .cue file has something like this at the top

Code:

PERFORMER "Radio Station Name"
  FILE "showname-20190516.mp3" MP3
  TITLE "John Smith - 2019/05/16"
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
  TITLE "Hard Days Night"
  PERFORMER "The Beatles"

I don’t need OAuth for that (I think) but might not be valid approach

Was left as the default which had HLS first.
Now switched to have DASH first and working well.

I do not see a setting to change CDN source.

That is what I was doing at first (using TuneIn) and was playing fine
but wanted the programme info to appear on screen, hence installing
plugin.
Note - I first installed Triode (1.3.x I think) from the official list
of 3rd-party plug-ins ... then later added in your repo and 1.6.4
Perhaps that had an effect on the defaults.

Only because it is a significant number that lays between the long
tracks that were reported as working and not working - and knowing the
Squeezebox stuff tends to use seconds when passing duration information
around.
Also, there is more than Perl involved here.

You could try issuing a cli command to request Status while it is
playing and see what is in the tags.

a5:41:d2:cd:cd:05 status 0 2 tags:
where you replace the MAC address at the start with the right one for

I don't think they have blocked them as such ... they have ask nicely
for them not to come ... via a settings in robots.txt
Google then co-operates by not accessing the data.

Would be good to see the full terms and conditions that BBC wants to
impose and what Google does not want, or is currently unable, to comply
with.
Seems to be to do with BBC getting some user info ... so perhaps Google
is proxying the requests with the result that BBC cannot see much info
about the requester.

I've found the reason for it being there.

I used a version of the DRS (Swiss radio plugin - version 1.1.0) as the

I see that the current version of that plugin does not have it.
I have taken that line out of my code for future version.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Group Players

2019-03-09 Thread Paul Webster

Just thought of a use for Group Players and I think it will work well
... in essence a playlist switcher.
A bit of a special case but others might have something similar.
I have a set of shows that I listen to during each month ... typically
20+ hours of material each month.
So I now have a group player named for that playlist.
Then when I have a listening session I simply join that appropriate
players to that group and start listening.
At the end of the session I simply Pause and then me or others use the
regular players in whatever way we fancy ... then when I want to go back
to my special stuff again I change the group membership to where ever I
am for this new session and Resume.

Trying it out right now for the first time.
