Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: YouTube Plugin (API v3)

I've been using the plugin successfully but suddenly it stopped
producing sound. The API works – I can search etc., but when I start
playing something it only looks like it is playing. There is no sound
and after a while, the stream stalls. This is in the server log:

Any idea what might be up?

Nope. Perhaps it's a PCP idiosyncrasy. The warning has been there for
years, even after applying the old Version Comparison Fix patch. Anyhoo,
I shall focus not on that but on enjoying the superior AAC sound :D!

OK, I took the plunge. Exciting!

Interestingly, I still get the following on the Information tab in LMS,
but the firmware is definitely updated. No matter.

Code:

You seem to be using a Squeezebox with an outdated firmware, not
recognizing this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider using the
Community Firmware plugin, or patching the device's firmware (get more
information).

Thanks, that is helpful. My Radio on 7.7.3-r16676 seems to be playing
fine with my 8.2 LMS, but perhaps there are things I am not aware of
that would work better, or that I am missing, based on what you wrote
above. Is it the case that compatibility issues between the Radio and
8.x are not general/consistent but a bit random?

Yes, I have noticed... If using a VPN, do both the server _and_ clients
need to go through the VPN, or just the server?

Thanks @kidstypike! Much appreciated. I see you have some Edifier

performance/sound; don't often come across users of this brand.

I have a set-up at home that allows me to route certain clients through
a SmartDNS solution, which helps with geoblocking. I have never tried
this with the LMS or SB clients. Is it the LMS that needs to be routed
this way, or the different SB clients, or both?

If I try this, are there some residual settings in LMS that might still
interfere, for example by routing certain traffic to a non-UK SB server
when requesting a URL?

Great app!

When using this app, do BBC serve different streams depending on your
location? I am outside the UK and getting a 96kbps CBR stream on Radio
3. Is this what people in the UK also get?

I'm using a Radio. I recall having a bass drop-out issue a few years
ago; I think I resolved it with a 3rd party app called AlsaBufferSize.
Is that the same issue?

In any case, it sounds like this firmware is aimed more at fixing issues
for people than at offering new functionality. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I am sorry, but I read that and more, and it only tells me that a lot of
changes have been made to the first version of the community firmware,
but not the original reason to create it. From the changelog, I can sort
of deduce that a lot is around AAC and WiFi issues - is that all that
the firmware is about? If I am running the stock firmware and have no
issues, do I have no reason to be interested in the community firmware?
