2010-01-25 Thread chris . mason

Forgive me for hijacking this thread, but I'm trying to do exactly what
the OP (dip) has done, but I can't understand how to set this up.

What I would like to do is display TITLE (ARTIST) then switch to
CONDUCTOR (COMPOSER) or something like that.

I can't get my head around what I'm supposed to set up where to get
this to work. Could someone (Erland perhaps) give me some pointers on
how to do this?

From what I can see, in Titleswitcher setup you can switch between
single formats, such as ARTIST or TITLE, rather than groups of them.

TIA!
Chris.

Thanks for such a prompt reply Erland.

I've just tried giving this a go, and the problem I'm having is that if
I put in a title format such as CONDUCTOR or COMPOSER in TitleSwitcher,
they get rejected with the error Invalid format.

I've tested that CONDUCTOR and COMPOSER can be used by SBS by
specifying them as usable formats for the UI. Is there anything I
should be doing to enable Titleswitcher to recognise them?

As a side note, if I put in TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, they all work fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2010-01-19 Thread chris . mason

gharris999;507919 Wrote:
Yes. If the EOD (End of Day) action is set to a custom script or if the
EOD action is not equal to the regular idle action, then the EOD start
time is treated as an alarm.

Typical use case for me: my EOD time starts at 2am, ends at 2:05, has
the 'allowed idle time' set to 0 (zero), and has the action command set
to run a custom script. That script performs operating system updates,
Squeezebox Server updates (via svn) and other chores. When the previous
on-idle suspend occurred, the plugin set a alarm wake-up so that the
server would wake up at 1:55 in order to service the EOD action.

At the end of my custom EOD action script, the server gets rebooted.
Because I have the 'allowed idle time' for the EOD set to 0 (zero), when
the server restarts, the plugin sees that it's already within the EOD
period and so it doesn't fire off the custom script a 2nd or 3rd time.
This is a special case: EOD_idle_time == 0 means that a EOD action gets
 called just once.

I will eventually tweak this behavior one more time. The new behavior
that I'm planning will call for the EOD watchdog to ignore the custom
command (if present) and instead call the action selected in the EOD
idle-action drop down list. That will allow me to extend the EOD period
and have the server suspend sooner after the custom script chores have
 completed.

The Idle Player Monitor and the End of Day monitor should never
conflict. While the plugin senses that it is in the EOD period, it
just checks the EOD watchdog, and ignores the idle watchdog.

That makes sense, and fits the behaviour I've seen.

One thing I've noticed, (and this goes back to the original problem I
had with EOD actions before I upgraded), is that if the server is
restarted during the EOD period, after the EOD action has already been
called once (Shutdown to MSB), and allowed idle time 0 (10 mins),
the EOD action still gets ignored. I'm assuming this bit in the
server.log confirms that :

Code:

  [10-01-19 02:35:41.9439]
Plugins::SrvrPowerCtrl::Watchdog::ActivateEODWatchdog (375) Skipping EOD checks
because IsInEOD and bSkipEODCheck == 1

My EOD is set as follows:

Allowed idle time : 10 mins
EOD start and end times : 10.20pm to 6.00am
Action to take : Shutdown to mysqueezebox.com
(no custom action)

I also have Alarm interactions switched on, to wake the server 5
minutes before any alarms, which includes EOD as discussed.

Originally (in my previous posts) I thought this was a problem related
to CLI-issued blocks not being cleared. To explain : I have a PC
running Windows XP, the main PC for our house. At 2.30am it boots, and
runs some maintenance tasks, and also wakes up the media server. A
Block command is issued via CLI and a backup job to the server from
the PC is run, then the block is cleared. Checking the server log, I
see that the Block is cleared:

Code:

  [10-01-19 02:42:39.8618] Plugins::SrvrPowerCtrl::CLI::cliClearBlock (136)
Attempting to clear block via CLI: caller: viacli, message: Backup_Tasks
  [10-01-19 02:42:39.8623] Plugins::SrvrPowerCtrl::Plugin::blockAction (411)
Begin: there are 1 blockactions set.
  [10-01-19 02:42:39.8629] Plugins::SrvrPowerCtrl::Plugin::blockAction (484)
Deleting blockAction[0] caller: viacli, reason: Backup_Tasks

I had hoped what would then happen is SPC's EOD would kick in again.
After 10 mins of inactivity, it would shutdown the server, and push the
players to MSB.com. However, this does not happen, and fits the
behaviour you describe for when the EOD Idle time is set to zero (not 10
mins as in this case).

Having read your description of EOD, the next step you are intending
for EOD could fix that. Could you provide an option such that I can
decide whether EOD actions should fire once, or fire multiple times,
during the start/end period?

Alternatively, I can simply shutdown the PC remotely, with SPC set to
push players to SBC on external shutdown event.

This leads to a second problem I've come across, which may well be a
bug, and that is related to the Idle Player Monitor and alarms.

I have Idle player monitor switched on, and had this set to 15 minutes,
with the action to suspend the server. Also, recall that I have the EOD
period set from 10.20pm to 6.00am. The server (as described above) did
not shutdown during the EOD period. At 6am the Idle monitor cut in, and
15 minutes later the server was suspended...just as you'd expect.

I have an alarm scheduled to go off at 7.05am. Thanks to RTC wakeup
being set by SPC, the server woke-up at 6.55am, again as expected. What
then happened was that the alarm went off, I put it into snooze after 10
seconds or so, and then Idle Player Monitor turned off the server a few
minutes later, preventing the alarm going off any more. A check in the
server log confirms this (although it doesn't show any entries for

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2010-01-18 Thread chris . mason

Gordon,

Apologies for not getting back to you with logging info on the issue
with CLI issued blocks not being cleared, and automated shutdown not
working.

I had to rebuild my server in the end, and installed Ubuntu 9.10, and
SBS 7.4.2, and am hence using the beta version of SrvrPowerControl.

I'm using the Monitor Idle Players facility to suspend the server on
player inactivity (I'm able to do this, because I have FINALLY figured
out how to get WOL from suspend working, so restarting takes 5 seconds
instead of a minute).

I also use the End of Day facility, to shutdown the server, and switch
the players to MySqueezeBox.com.

It occurred to me that Idle, and EOD facilties could clash, so I've
been exploring how to set RTC wakeup times (stimulated by your helper
scripts).

I noticed when checking /proc/driver/rtc (and also the srvrpowercontrol
log file) that an alarm had been for 10:19pm, 1 minute before I have EOD
start to check for idle players. In my testing, I have been using the
Alarm interactions facility to wake up the server before an alarm
(which works very well, even if the server is shutdown - S5), and I'd
set that to wake 1 minute before the alarm.

Maybe it is a coincidence, but have you tied Monitor Idle and EOD using
the Wake for alarm facility? Fantastic if you have, saves me some
work!

Chris.

For MIP1.9 you have to use Genpuid-1.4 (which has some nice additional

The only reason to run the MIP application is to create filters for MIP

I like to create a number of different filters for MIP to use. A good

My suspicion is that GenPUID 1.4 is compatible with MIP1.9, which

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP - Analysis vs. Validation

2010-01-15 Thread chris . mason

Hi all,

I'm getting a little confused...

I've followed the various wiki pages, but I'm still not clear on what
the difference is between the Validation function, provided by the web
interface to the MusicIP server, and Analysis, as carried out by the
MusicIP application or through GenPUID.

Can anyone give me a clear explanation of the difference?

I've been using MIP headless for a few years now. I just recently
completely rebuilt by music server. Unfortunately, I missed some vital
files to backup, which has meant I've needed to install MusicIP from
scratch.

The first time I had MIP installed, I scanned my music library using
the MIP application, but when I subsequently added new music, I did this
through the MIP server web interface - using Add Music, then clicking
the Validate button. This would take a few minutes, then when I
refreshed the music library on SlimServer/SqueezeBoxServer, these songs
would appear, and would be MIP mixable.

So I've assumed all this time, that Validate served the same purpose
as Analyse. Is that wrong? Is the fact that these songs appeared is
MIP mixable not accurate?

Thanks
Chris.

Yes, sorry should have been clearer. To do all this, I'm using the
End of Day section in the setings for SPC. I have Allowed idle time
set to 10 minutes (normally), and start time of 10pm, with end time of
6am.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-11-14 Thread chris . mason

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for such a thorough explanation. I'll have time to run more
tests with the debugging as you suggest tomorrow and come back to you
with the results.

To confirm - the EOD timer is usually set to 10 minutes. I just used 0
for tests, principly to see after if the desired action had been
triggered, would it be triggered again if the same event circumstances
happened within the same event period.

Ideally, I'd like to have the normal idle monitor on, suspending the
server if players aren't playing. But because I've almost gone insane
trying to WOL working in Ubuntu, I've had to keep the machine on during
the day, and shutdown at night. Oh, if only WOL would work properly
(the very same machine used to run Windows XP, and WOL worked
perfectly). Anyway, thats another discussion..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-11-13 Thread chris . mason

I've come across an issue in srvrpowerctrl under SQ7.3.4/ubuntu.

I have the plugin set so that after 10pm, if no players are playing, it
shuts the server down. This works well (brilliant idea). During the
night, my Windows PC fires-up, runs a bunch of admin tasks including
backing up stuff to my media server. To do this, the server is woken
remotely. As discussed earlier in the thread, I issue a Block command
through the CLI to stop SPC shutting the server down, then issue a
Clear afterwards.

What I'm finding though is that after the Clear has been issued, SPC
doesn't then shut the server down. I tested this during the day too, as
follows:

1. Set SPC to shutdown after 9am, with 0 mins for monitoring idle
players
2. Ensure all players are idle.
3. The server shutdown, as expected.
4. Restart server
5. Nothing happens (no subsequent shutdown).

Is this expected behaviour? It seems that after SPC has performed one
shutdown, it won't do another, until the next monitoring period. (I
know the above test case is far from ideal, as you could get stuck in a
continous boot/shutdown cycle).

Any thoughts?

I noticed that srvrpowerctrl can now be managed through the extensions
downloader (for 7.3.4). I've added that URL to the list, and I got a
message saying that my existing (manual) installation of Srvr needed to
be removed. I did that, but now SrvrPowerCtrl is not listed at all in
the list of available plugins.

I removed the previous installation by deleted the srvrpowerctrl
directory under /usr/share/squeezecenter/Plugins. Is there anything
else I should be doing?

(I'm running Squeezecenter 7.3.4 on Ubuntu 9.04 by the way).

Love the plugin, thanks for all your work on this.

Firstly (actually may be this is secondly, as I've said this bit before
I think) - thats so much for this plugin - it is VITAL to my SQ/Boom/SB3
operation! Seriously.

Quick question, and I appreciated this may have been addressed in this
thread, but its getting quite long...

I have SvrPowerControl configured to shutdown SQ to SN, if all players
are idle for 10 minutes after 10.30pm. I love this feature.
My media server is also a backup server, and I want to start running my
backups in the middle of the night. To do this, the server will be
woken remotely, and the backup run.

Will SPC shutdown the server after 10 mins, per the above config, or
will that not happen because there is an active FTP session going (for
the backup) and the disk is being worked?

Thanks!
Chris.

Now I'm experience problems with Music IP!!
Since I moved to SlimServer 6.3.1, as others here have mentioned, only
some tracks appear mixable. I've swapped between 6.3 and 6.3.1 several
times and the problem only happens in 6.3.1.

I've also tried using MySQL and the built-in sql-lite db to see if that
makes a difference, which it doesn't.

I've also installed the latest Music IP beta - 1.6rc7 - no difference.

I'm wondering if its a cacheing or process priority issue. If there
was a change in the way Slim talked to the MIP API, the problem would
probably be more consistent. So, perhaps Slim is not consistently
retrieving all the information from MIP for each track queried.

I've got a few other things to try as well, I'll keep posting here...

The only reason I put a value in Music Folder is so that when

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: MyPicks - OPML station list editor menu

2006-07-26 Thread chris . mason

Hi Brian,

Some more details (sorry I wasn't very clear before):

When you are clicking on the add i.e plus sign - is this is within
MyPicks ?

Yes. In this case, I imported a playlist containing one entry. This
was succesfully added. I then clicked on the plug sign, on the added
entry , from with the MyPicks OPML editor, and thats when I got the
error. So, basically, add/create a new entry, and then straight away,
click on add BUT only when you have no active player attached to
slimserver (i.e you have the message your player was not found in the
right hand pane).

Here is my MyPicks.opml file (very simple - one entry. This is the
example I used which created the problem. This URL does work, so I
think the issue is more with trying to add this station to a playlist
(from MyPicks OPML editor) when there are no players present.

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
opml version=1.0
head title=No Title
expansionState/expansionState
/head
body
outline
URL=mms://a473.l1980447065.c19804.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/473/19804/v0001/reflector:47065_470?MSWMExt=.asf
text=KFOX 98.5 | Classic Rock type=audio /
/body
/opml

Great plugin by the way.
Chris.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: MyPicks - OPML station list editor menu

2006-07-26 Thread chris . mason

One other thing I noticed - When I select My Picks from the Radio menu
on the front page of slimserver (or from the internet radio list in the
player), I still get this error:

2006-07-26 17:46:33.7459 XMLBrowser: error retrieving
file://D:\Music\Slimserver playlists\mypicks.opml:
2006-07-26 17:46:33.7464 Unable to open file 'D:'

That file is definately there...should there be three slashes after the
resource type (file:///)?

Could be just my setup, as no one else appears to be having problems!
I'll try Slim 6.3.1 and see what happens.

Chris.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: MyPicks - OPML station list editor menu

2006-07-25 Thread chris . mason

OK, I confess I'm stumped. I can't get this plugin to work.

I'm running SlimServer 6.3 (the official release), on Windows XP SP2.
I've installed the latest version of the plugin (0.3a).

My Picks now appears in the Radio list on the home page of the server
web interface. When I go to server settings - plugins, it is nowhere
to be found. There is a reference to it under server settings -
internet radio, but thats just a check-box. Can anyone tell me what
I'm doing wrong?

When I click on My Picks from the radio station list I get

There was an error loading the remote feed for My Picks: (Unable to
open file 'D:')

Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: MusicIP Mixer and Slimserver 6.3

2006-07-11 Thread chris . mason

Thats a good point that I forgot to mention - I have the MIP reload
interval set to 0. I see no reason to have it set otherwise, unless you
are frequently adding new music to MIP and having it analyzed.I've
found also that having Slim get updates from MIP frequently can on
occasion lead to duplicate information, such as duplicate artists
list.

Its hard to say exactly where the problem lies. The MIP server
certainly needs some work - it has issues with character encoding, that
is handling non-UK/US letters and numbers. However, Slim's integration
with MIP may also not be quite right. I don't think its a high
priority.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: MusicIP Mixer and Slimserver 6.3

2006-07-10 Thread chris . mason

Hi Siduhe,

The second behaviour you describe with a 3rd of your collection not
mixable is what I was experiencing. I was quite suprised that my first
attempt fixed the problem - I was not expecting that.

Can I ask if you are using MySQL, or db packaged with Slim?

I'm using mysql 5.0 - I'm not sure if is a factor.

Another you could try - open the web page for the MIP server. If you
have the MIP service running, point a browser at
http://localhost:10002. You get some rudamentary control of the
service from here. Click the refresh button, to reload the cache (it
might be called reload in fact). Then try re-scanning your library.

To clarify something I did - before I did a complete library re-scan, I
manually emptied the database tables - there is a simple script to do
this for mysql. If you are using the bundled database, then just
delete the slimserver cache file (can't remember where that is located,
but it should be easy to find). After that, I then did a rescan.

Hope that helps.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: MusicIP Mixer and Slimserver 6.3

2006-07-09 Thread chris . mason

OK, setting the SlimServer music folder attribute to blank, then forcing
a complete rescan of the library (my turning of slimserver, clearing out
the DB, and restarting Slim just to be sure...!), seemed to fix this.
I then added the music folder path back in. Slim did a further rescan,
but kept all the mixables intact, and didn't duplicate the tracks.

The reason I like to have the music library path set in Slim is so that
when browsing my folder, you are constrained to the folder specified.
If you don't set that attribute, then if you browse by folder, you get
to view the whole file system (at least on Windows you do).

I'm running SlimServer Version: 6.3.1 - 8278 - Windows XP - EN - cp125
by the way.

Chris.

OK, to do this, you open up the server settings menu in the slimserver
web browser.
On the next page you will see an attribute called something like Music
library folder. Set that to blank, and then do a complete re-scan of
your music...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Anybody else having problems with Radio 4 LW?

I'm just trying to listen to BBC Radio 4 Long Wave to listen to Test

I don't think this is an AlienBBC issue though - I tried going to the

well.

Just wanted to see if others are having the same issue. It could just
be volume of traffic.

2006-04-20 Thread chris . mason

Have you tried the later Beta? MIP1.6 Beta 4 has just come out.

Also, what other settings do you have?
For example, how often does Slim check MIP for updates? I think the
default is quite frequent. Try changing that to 0 (i.e don't check).
Have you got a music library path specified in Slim, while you are also
using MIP? If you wish to entirely rely on MIP, you can set that to
empty.

Then try shutting slim down, deleting its cache, and restarting,
allowing it to rescan its library.

I agree, AlienBBC is a terrific plugin, the writers deserve high

To listen to Mercury, you need to find GWR stations, and scroll

think.

Enjoy...

2006-02-14 Thread chris . mason

Like ceejay, I can't get song scanner to work on SoftSqueeze either, and
I would really like it to work.

I'm using the latest 6.2.1 build of Slimserver on Windows XP, and
SoftSqueeze 2.3.

All my files are encoded in FLAC and as far as I can tell are not
transcoded when played. I get the same behaviour as CeeJay - it just
stops.

I'll try the debug stuff out later (probably tomorrow in fact), but I'd
really like to get to the bottom of this. Song Scanner is just what I'm
looking for.

I don't have an SB2 or 3 (yet), so I'm doing everything using
SoftSqueeze in preparation for purchase of an SB3, and for listening
remotely.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] LastFM SlimServer 6.2.1 (WinXP) problem.

2006-01-11 Thread chris . mason

Hi all,

I have slimserver 6.2.1 installed on a windowsXP PC. I've been
experimenting with it for a little while, using SoftSqueeze, winamp
etc, and I'm very impressed. I hope to buy a SB3 in the near future.

LastFM caught my eye the other day, so I thought I would investigate -
today I registered, and having been listening to some radio stations.
Its an interesting idea.

Anyway, I installed the lastfm slimserver plugin (the latest Beta
version, and afterwards, the latest live version), and I've not been
able to get it to work. When I try and get a stream working, I always
get the message back error connecting to lastfm!. I can listen to
stations with no problem using the LastFM player, and I've tried using
that to kick-start slimserver, but to no avail. I also installed the
slimscrobbler plugin as well in case that was needed - no luck.

I read a number of posts on this forum about lastfm, but none seem to
address this issue. Is this a LastFM problem?

Chris.

OK, this is entirely my fault.
I realised that none of my radio streams work...which got me thinking,
until I read the AlienBBC error message more closely - RTSP error :
check file types.

Hmmm, check file types you say?

So, I check the file types, and guess what? I'd deselected pretty much
all the transcoding/decoding file types for some testing (except for
native FLAC), and forgot about it.

All works now, lesson learned...
Thanks for your attention!
