I've updated the release available via Extension Downloader to 2.4a4 -
the only change is that it looks in all locations known by the server
for mplayer.exe on windows before trying to download it. This will
allow anyone who is having problems with the automatic download to put
mplayer.exe into
I still can't get this to work. I have uninstalled SC7.3 and started
again, still get checksum error.
I have also tried to download and install mplayer manually and get
mplayer not found message. It could be me doing something wrong with
the download?
I have saved the windows (outdated) url, as
Sorry - just read the code again - it only looks in the location the
pluin would download mplayer to, so if you download it manually you
need to put mplayer.exe into the Bin folder which is part of alien.
I will update it to look in other locations too, but can't for a day or
so. So for the
Bingo!
Works great now, thanks.

Well you could download mplayer from the following URL:

I've just updated the Extension Downloader repositories with a slightly
updated version - 2.4a3
This should fix the mplayer test for mac, add some more information on
the settings page for installing mplayer and the status of it. It also
adds BBC local radio live support.

Ramage,
Back in 6.x I think you wanted bitrate limiting with AlienBBC - I think
it now works with 7.3 with AlienBBC and 2.04.

I think bit rate limiting also work with AACplus as well.

Assuming you have upgraded from 7.1 or 7.2
1. Lookat SC Setting/Information Tab and note the Playlist and Cache
directory settings.
2. Stop SC
3. Delete the file alienbbc.opml in SC's Playlist or Cache directory
4. Restart SC.

Hi there,
I cannot find a file AlienBBC.opml search reveals this file in FLAC
d:Share\Music plus a back up and in Music d:\shares which also has a
backup
In Plugins\Playlist there are only two files RTSPPL.pm and SMIL.pm.
As I say I have WMA feeds for some of my radio and I can access
AlienBBC
The file alienbbc.opml (all lowercase) will be in a SqueezeCenter not
Alien Playlist directory. This is the directory you set in SC web page
Settings/Basic Settings.
If you have not set up this Playlist directory then SC will use the
SqueezeCenter Cache directory which is shown on the 5th line
I saw reference to this in a different thread (not specific to AlienBBC)
but as feedback it may be helpful to mention that for windows a restart
of the physical machine (not just the server software) may be needed
for AlienBBC to complete the install. This solved the issues I had
finding it after
the only thing it doesn't do is sync on both players at once.
Syncing is an SC issue not a AlienBBC issue. Transcoding and using an
SBv1 (with its small buffer) probably a borderline configuration. Have
you tried making MP3 the default format for RTSP (i.e disable RTSP-WAV
and RTSP-FLAC)
Hi there,
Removed the Previous version of AlienBBC the new version installed.
But when I go the AlienBBC and click on a channel I get Error item not
found. However if I go to AlienBBC live it plays the channels am I
missing somethignher or have I done something wrong?
Many thanks, Tim.

You need to
1. Note your Playlist and Cache directory from web page
Settings/Status
2. Stop SC
3. remove the alienbbc.opml file which is in your SC Playlist or
Cache directory (the paths were noted in step 1)
4. Restart SC.

Brilliant!
I was just about to post a message re: missing items since upgrading to
7.3, and then I saw this. It's installed flawlessly via the Extension
Downloader.
Nice!

With 7.3, AlienBBC installation is supported via the new Extension

Just downloaded 7.3 but how do I get rid of the previous version of
AlienBBC? I have deleted the Alien folder from plugins but when I
restart squeezecenter it still tells me that AlienBBC is manually
installed and that it needs to be removed to install the new version.
Am I missing something
You need to manually remove the folder it is installed from - this
should be shown in the same place as the manually installed message.
Then restart the server and check that the manually installed message
has gone away. If it does not then you haven't removed that folder
fully.

I just double checked and the entire Alien folder is gone - but it still
shows in the Extension Downloader. I have restarted the server since
