Speaking on behalf of Chris and myself, thanks for the compliment. As far as supporting the Lyngdorf amps, that would be an interesting project for sure, probably best accomplished by cloning and modifying the Denon/Marantz plugin. The command/request protocol looks to be quite robust and, in many ways, simpler to program for, due in large part to the less-is-more design philosophy of the manufacturer. Personally, I would love to take this project on as a new LMS plugin. However, I would require the hardware for use in development and testing. If you have any "pull" with the manufacturer, feel free to use it. My mailing address (USA) is available on demand. :D Take care and happy holidays! Thanks for the positive feedback, @edwin2006. Speaking for myself, posts such as yours are all the thanks I need. As an aging retired software engineer, sometimes I feel like it's the plugin that's keeping ME alive. :D I'm pretty sure @ChrisC feels the same way (at least about the thanks part ;)). For me personally though, just a mention on the link you posted would be much appreciated if only to help spread the word about the Denon/Marantz plugin which, in my admittedly biased opinion, is under-utilized in the Squeezebox community given the widespread popularity of these AVR's. Thanks again for your kind words, and best wishes to you and all the other plugin users in 2023. No problem, Olivier. Glad you got things working again. If you're ever feeling adventurous, give the AVR Settings menu feature a try sometime. I've found the problem. One thing I missed is that the 3.5.4 version of ser2net I used to build my pcp extension does not have the famous uucp locking. So I'll try to build with an option that, in my mind, make the extension unstable. I downgrade to ser2net 3.5.1 with the -u option and It works perfectly! I will now test the 3.5.4 without the uucp locking option. Sorry for disturbing.. Hello Sam, Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking like you... My ser2net bridge ip address is the one you can see in the logs. My question is, do you have any known about any change in logitech media server side which made your plugin works differently ? Can you confirm that your plugin have the same behavior in lms 8.x ? What version of the plugin were you running previously? You say v4.4.1. Did you mean v4.7.1, which was the last one prior to the current v4.7.2 version? If you would like to run a test with v4.7.1, that would be simpler than going back to v4.4.1. Let me know. Changes/enhancements: - Add support for *Orange Squeeze* and *Open Squeeze* client apps in the AVR Settings menus. The list of client apps supporting the menus now include: Material Skin, Squeezer, iPeng, Squeeze Ctrl, Squeezelite-X (via Material Skin), Orange Squeeze and Open Squeeze. - Improve the process of pausing and resuming playback while powering on the AVR so as to reduce the likelihood of missing the first few seconds of playback. - No longer restart the current track when switching to the AVR player during the process of transferring the queue or syncing with another player. - Extend the functionality of the AVR Settings menus so they can still be used even after the player has been stopped, as long as the AVR is still powered on, e.g. after switching the AVR to another input. - Various bug fixes and optimizations. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
Hi Sam. I have noticed that after about a half hour of play the Denon amp switched off and music play is paused when using Z2. Controlling via MS on android. If Z1 is also on then Z2 shuts off and Z1 remains on. Touching PLAY on the MS interface turns the amp back on and it reverts to my preset volume. I do have a 30 minute AUTO STANDBY set generally but it hasn't caused a shutdown while playing music Z2 prior to the recent plugin revisions. Though I would start with the plugin to find any issues so have attached a log in which the issue occurs twice, if you wouldn't mind looking at it for me to see if it is something the plugin is doing, or not doing! 39306 Cheers, David +---+ |Filename: server.log(33).zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39306| +---+ *Server*rpi3 pCP8.1.0 LMS8.2.0 *Media*USB hard drive *Lounge/dining areas*SBT > Denon AVR2113 > Bose Acoustimass10 / Krix Seismix3 18" 300w RMS custom cinema sub (& AR 77XB t/table, Stanton 680MkII / Grado F-1+ > NAD7155 to phono pre-amp > Amp+) *Family/kitchen*SBT > Denon AVRX3000 zone 1 > Krix Acoustix F, Centrix C, Holographix R & Original Seismix 7 15" 400w RMS sub *Alfresco*Z2 > Krix Tropix/Klipsch SW *Others*SB Player/androids > Bose Soundlink Mini *SBT/SB Player Remotes* Squeeze Ctrl/androids DavidBulluss's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=60056 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yeah, I imagine it is something like that causing the issue as without the AVR plugin I never had any issues with AP bridge playback. I don't think it is worth any further investigation we can just stop here and I will find some other way. I guess I do have a bunch of extra Pis laying around if it ends up annoying me that much. The power on and off commands were handled normally, as you noted, and it is ignoring all of the volume control callback notifications, as it should when running with the player set to variable volume output. There are, however, an unusually large number of playlist control notifications such as "play", "open", "jump", "newsong", "stop", "index", etc., all coming in a seemingly continuous stream --- much more activity than I would expect from an ordinary listening session. I don't know if you were generating the activity manually via the client app or if they were coming from the AP bridge plugin. While none of these callback notifications cause any action to be taken by the plugin, they do cause some network and cpu overhead that could affect performance and possibly result in "wonky" playback. Maybe you could elaborate on what you observed in that respect. The good news is that the looping error condition is no longer an issue and the plugin is behaving as expected overall. I suspect that the wonky playback might result from conflicting commands being generated by the two plugins. For example, when the Denon plugin sees an LMS "play" command while it is in the process of powering on the AVR, it generates a "pause" command until the AVR is powered on completely, at which time it sends a "play" command. This is done in order to make sure that the playback doesn't start until the AVR is ready, thus avoiding cutting off the beginning of the song. The AP bridge plugin probably also issues its own player commands, with both plugins assuming that they are in charge. Let me know if you want to pursue this any further but I'm not sure it's worth the effort and the overhead incurred by the Denon plugin just to get the AVR to turn off automatically after AP playback. You could always set the AVR's auto standby timeout to the minimum value (10 minutes?) to ensure that it does get turned off eventually. When you speak of zones flickering on and off when volume adjusting Zone 3, I'm assuming that you have set up both plugins to control Zone 3 and they are sending conflicting commands to the Denon, one via Telnet and the other via whatever protocol Airplay uses. Other than that, are you able to power off the AVR via the Denon plugin? It might be interesting to see a debug log of what is going on. In the meantime, if you configure the LMS audio "Volume Control" setting for the associated player to "Volume controls adjust outputs" instead of "Fixed at 100%", the plugin will not send volume or muting commands to the AVR at all, which is what you want. You would also want to leave the Quick Select / Input Source blank, assuming that is all set up with the Airplay bridge. With that configuration, the only commands sent to the AVR by the plugin should be Power On and Off. The extra Power On command shouldn't cause any problems. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
Any way to have this plugin work on players connected via AirPlay bridge? Basically would just need to have power off functionality as the AVR turns on automatically if AirPlay'd to (at least all of mine do) and volume is controlled by the volume slider by default. I sometimes use one of my AVRs this way and would like it to turn off like the rest of them when I hit the power off button. Without it I have to use the remote control or rely on auto-off. Enabling the plugin as-is on an airplay bridge connected AVR causes some wacky behavior with volume adjusting Zone 3 and the AVR (Denon X6300H) flickering the zones on and off. Obviously it is not meant for this but I gave it a shot. mctr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72389 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You might want to try changing the increment value setting to 1% there too. Another setting to experiment with is the plugin's Max Volume setting, which defaults to -10 (70dB). You can change it on the fly without restarting LMS to see if it helps. Beyond that, you'd have to pursue it with the Squeeze Ctrl app developer. I had never given it much thought when I have seen it in the list but it will be very useful at my end apart. Some mornings I find my SBT units have turned themselves on during the night, luckily I do not have them set to auto-play! Not sure what causes them to turn on as it is always both of them and it does not relate to power outages, especially having household battery back-up. Now hopefully if they turn on randomly they will power down after the preset period. Funny story, years ago I did have them on auto-play and I was overseas at the time when they turned on, but they also turned on at near full volume, much to the neighbour's annoyance and amusement. Luckily, after they contacted me I was able to control the system remotely and turn it off. I’ve downloaded the “power save” plugin and enabled it on the Touch after 60 minutes of inactivity. That should keep the player and the AVR pretty much synced in on/off state, making it easy to reliably turn on house-wide playback from iPeng. Auto standby is an 'Eco' power saving option on newer AVR's that my old Denon doesn't have. It can be set to time intervals up to 60 mins or disabled. When it is triggered, it simply powers off the AVR the same as if you had turned it off manually. The plugin does no periodic polling of the AVR to check its status and is unaware that it has been powered off. It only reacts to LMS player commands and assumes that, once it has powered the AVR on, it is in control. Look at it this way. If you had intentionally turned the AVR off from the front panel, would you want the LMS player, which could be in another room, to immediately turn it back on because it is still playing? Probably not. So the solution to your problem would be to disable the AVR's Auto standby mode or, when the situation occurs, turn the LMS player off and back on or, alternatively, use the client app's "Denon/Marantz AVR settings" menu to power cycle the AVR without affecting the player at all. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
Hi again. Not a big deal - but I’ve noticed that after an intermittent pause in the music (>60min), the AVR will automatically enter power-save standby while the LMS player (touch) will remain turned on. The player will then happily commence “playing” without turning on the AVR. Since the plug-in is otherwise good at reading the AVR status - I would have expected it to turn the AVR back on in this scenario? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
This release contains a critical bug fix and should be installed ASAP The changes are: - Close a timing window that can cause the plugin to enter a looping error condition when powering a player off. This problem is most likely to occur when the player's "Power On Resume" LMS Audio menu setting is set to either of the "Pause at power off" options and can result in the LMS host machine becoming unresponsive. - Add support for the Marantz M-DAX audio restorer modes in the Audio Settings menu. I'm curious as to where the unusual "power off" / "pause" command combination is being generated. Just one final note on volume. If you want a combination of the finest granularity and the smoothest feel to volume changes, try setting the maximum AVR volume to "60 (-20)" in the player's plugin settings and the client app's volume up/down increment to "1%", which is an option in both Squeezer and Material Skin. This combination makes the volume control of these apps feel almost, dare I say, analog. Sam SamY's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63495 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

As I said in my response to your Github issue, you are mistaken when you refer to the AVR volume scale as a percentage. It is, in fact, a decibel range, whether you choose to display it on a scale of 0 to 98 or -79.5 to 18, as the Denon allows you to do. The linear 0-100 percent scale of the player does not directly correlate to the 0-98 decibel scale of the AVR, which is logarithmic rather than linear. An increase of 3dB at any point in the range is a doubling of perceived volume. The plugin uses an algorithm based on psychoacoustics to translate between the two scales. 'Here' (https://pulsarinstruments.com/news/understanding-decibels-decibel-scale-and-noise-measurement-units) is an article you might want to read for further information on the decibel scale. To get back to your problem, I would suggest you ensure that the incremental change value in whatever client apps you use is set to as low a value as possible, especially when listening at low levels. I have found that a value of +/-2 is ideal for use with the plugin. Thanks for your input and I hope this information is helpful. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
In refer to my github issue I am writing here to discuss an issue I am experiencing. https://github.com/aesculus/denonavpcontrol/issues/23#issuecomment-1296308288 LMS shows volume control in % (0% - 100%). My AVR shows also volume in % (0%-98%). When I set LMS volume to 5%, it is translated to 20% on my AVR. 10% is translated to 28.5% on my AVR and so on. I do not know if this is intended behavior or not. In my opinion, this does not make much sense and is not straightforward. Why would I want to have two different % values for one player? I think such a nonlinear behavior only makes sense for transforming % to dB and vice versa. The behavior is independent from client apps (Squeezer, LMS Material). So if this behavior is a bug, please see my github issue as a bug report. If the behavior is intended, please see this as a feature request, to get an optional 1:1 volume transfer, where 5% in LMS is 5% on my AVR and 10% is 10% and so on. gnackwatschn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71199 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
The main feature of this release is support for a new "Multi-zone" mode that can be activated via the plugin's LMS setup menu. This mode allows the user to dynamically switch player control among any of the AVR's zones via the new "Zone Select" sub-menu of the Audio settings menu, available when using Squeezer, Squeeze Ctrl, iPeng, or the Material Skin client apps. All volume and muting requests received by the plugin are directed to the currently selected zone only. However, any or all of the activated zones can be playing the audio content simultaneously. Each zone can also be powered on and off separately via the menu and, when the LMS player is turned off, all active AVR zones are powered off automatically. The Multi-zone feature is activated by selecting the new "Enable multi-zone support?" checkbox in the plugin setup menu and is disabled by default. It can only be selected if the "Enable audio settings menus?" option is also selected. For more information on this and other features of the plugin, see the freshly updated 'Wiki pages' (https://github.com/aesculus/denonavpcontrol/wiki) and, as always, feel free to post any questions or problems here. There are also a few bug fixes included, among them one that eliminates a potential error loop condition. Enjoy! If you are okay with that, I will need you to download the attached zip file, unzip it and replace the DenonAvpControl directory in your LMS plugins directory with its contents after backing up the old DenonAvpControl directory for safekeeping. Do not just rename the old one. Move it out of the plugins directory. After restarting LMS, you will first need to go into the plugin's setup menu. Look for a new option called "Enable multi-zone support?", select its checkbox and save the changes. Otherwise, the Zone Select menu will not be shown. If you still have problems, send me a debug log. Thanks again for your help. +---+ |Filename: DenonAvpControl_beta.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38976| +---+ Sam SamY's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63495 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Please turn debug on and recreate the scenario you described, i.e. turn both zones on and then power the LMS player off in Material Skin. Thanks. Good tip, sweet! I am seeing an unexpected behaviour, you may be able to help me out. I have been using MS for control, and my primary receiver Zone is z2. I also have LMS connected into z1. Power on LMS, z2 comes on, can play music and control volume etc. Select z1 in zone menu, z1 powers up, again vol etc. controls perfectly. Select z2 in zone menu, z2 is now controlled for vol. All great and running smoothly. Now turn of the LMS (via MS) and LMS powers off, but Denon Z1 & Z2 stay on. Turn LMS back on (MS) and I can turn Z1 & Z2 off using Denon AVR settings and they turn off. Then power down LMS (MS). I had debug on while I was trying it out, attached just in case you want to have a look. 38970 Earlier in my testing, may not be in the log file, I found no responses at all for volume or on/off by the receiver, and I could only resolve it by rebooting pCP (and by default LMS). This happened a couple of times. @Sportswagoneer I have made some changes that should prevent this situation from occurring in the future. These changes will be included in version 4.7 of the plugin, scheduled for release within the next few days. Thanks for your help in locating the source of the problem. Okay. I think I see what is going on. It's a timing problem that can happen when the volume is being rapidly changed on a fast network. In this case, the SB volume was being decreased from 40 to 27, which generated 13 consecutive volume change requests to the plugin in .35 seconds at a rate of more than 1 every .03 seconds. Despite logic in the plugin that buffers volume requests in order to prevent overloading the AVR in cases such as this, it sent a second request to the AVR (vol 27) before the first one (vol 39) completed, which is not necessarily a problem in and of itself. However, the first one completed just as the second one was being sent, causing the socket to be closed and creating the error. That doesn't explain the loop, however, or why the plugin's error handling routine is apparently not being invoked to take care of the situation. I will look into how and where this timing problem should be addressed in the long term, possibly in LMS. For now, I will look at changing the plugin to better detect and prevent the scenario from happening and try to get some form of that in the upcoming v4.7 release, which is imminent. In the meantime, I would suggest refraining from aggressively "spinning the volume dial". With regard to that, are you using a client app such as Squeezer or iPeng to control the player, or just the SB Touch player itself? I ask because there are differences in how each of the client apps handles volume changes. My favorite in that regard is the Material Skin client which, in addition to the standard hardware/software volume buttons, supports changing it via a swipe up/down on the Now Playing screen and buffers the resultant volume change requests in a smooth and intuitive manner. You also might want to consider upgrading to LMS v8.3, as the version of v8.2 that you are running has not been updated in over a year and there are fixes and improvements happening on a regular basis. By the way, I understand that this problem is a major one that has caused you some real inconvenience, and I appreciate your patience and cooperation. Thanks again Sam! So then it finally happened again! I've truncated and zipped the server log file and uploaded the first part of it here. This time the LMS ended up shutting down when the disk was full, compressing the server.log to a .gz file which left the rest of the system with enough space to operate... 38967 +---+ |Filename: server.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38967| +---+ Sportswagoneer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35227 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I haven't had a very long testing session yet, access to Z1 of the Denon has been limited due to it being wet here and others deciding they want to use it! In the brief sessions that I have managed I would say that it is working well and I have the volume level issues sorted. The only downside I am seeing is the interface with Squeeze-CTRL regarding volume control. As mentioned before, the swipe up/down on the "now playing" screen does not adjust the volume as before, but does affect it albeit in varying increments and randomly, sometimes increasing during a swipe down, plus there is no onscreen report of the volume level anymore. It I select to have the "pop-up" on, then when I swipe up/down a pop up volume bar appears which I can use left to right and it shows vol level, still not ideal. Also, the fixed vol controls on bottom left of the screen do function, but again there is no report of vol level on screen. I will get to do a longer test at some time soon. Weekend coming, will be able to take a better look through everything. Correct that I can set Z1 on volume as you stated. Not sure what is going on but once I set it to "Last" the amp started acting unusually, and wouldn't switch on or off via Denon plugin. Eventually had to disconnect from mains and wait then reconnect. All fine for a while then it did it again. On & off via remote and it started behaving again. I have now set power on vol to a numeric value and it seems to be working. In switching between zones via plugin at one stage the track playing restarted, which is odd. It only did that once, and it was while I had power on V set to Last. Time to install the further revision, me thinks. Will do so and try it out. Again, thanks for all of this. Hi Sam, I am enjoying the way it is working very much, its main fuction with regard to controlling separate zones is great. Re the volume jump after turning default zone off and then back on using the plugin menu, I have checked every setting I know of, in particular QuickSelect where I have now set the on volume quite low for Z2. Along the way I have tried setting the volume via the receiver but the only options for Z2 is variable or a set volume (which doesn't work with fixed volume for LMS) and the option for last is not present for Z2 (it is for Z1), apart from Quick Select I can see no option for setting the on volume for Z2. The volume jump still occurs, and is to around 60 or so, where my general listening level is within 20 to 50. I can live with this, I will just not turn Z2 off if I think I might want to turn it back on in the same session, I will just turn its volume down to 0. The Squeeze-CTRL interface is evolving. As you noted, I had turned the Show Popup on, but only in an attempt to see if it had any effect on the loss of swipe up and down on cover art function which I use, but it didn't. Oddly enough, when I turned the show popup off today it partly restored the swip up/down function, but it is very jerky, I suggest that it is responding very slowly and at the moment is virtually unusable. I am able to use the std volume control function though so again I can work with it. Log file attached: 38938 Having reported all of that I must say the function is amazing, and you must be congratulated for what you have accomplished, well done! Upon further reflection, I will not be changing this behavior. Just set the Denon's Zone 2 "Power On Volume" according to your liking. Note that it can be set to "Last", meaning where it was set when it last powered off, which is what I would recommend in your situation. You probably had it set to a high value because you were running the player at variable output level before. Please continue testing and let me know if you run into any more problems. > I haven't noticed that but there are a multitude of options in > Squeeze-Ctrl. It seems that you inadvertently turned on the "Show Popup" option in Squeeze Ctrl's Volume Options settings when you were in there. Turn it off and the swipe up/down volume behavior should be back to the way it was. The Quick Select only happens when the AVR is initially powered on. As with all of the zones, it is simply powered on and the volume is set to whatever value you have specified in the Denon setup menu as "Power On Volume" for that zone. You should check to see what it is set to for Zone2 (and for any other AVR zones you plan to use with the plugin) and set it to a value that works for you. Contrary to your observation, though, it should be set to that constant value each time it is powered on. If that is not what you are seeing, please generate a debug log and I will take a look at it. I am open to changing how the volume is set in that situation and will look into the possibility of restoring it to what it was set at before it was last turned off if you think that makes more sense. Even better, I already store the initial volume setting for the Primary zone at startup (after the Quick Select, if any) and could restore it to that value. In the case of the Secondary zones (the Main zone in your case), they will always be set to the "Power On Volume" for that zone when they are turned on. Therefore, you need to make sure that the "Power On Volume" for those zones is set to a reasonable level. > There has been a change in the volume control behaviour in Squeeze-CTRL > that I do not like. Maybe it's that "Hide Volume Controls" option I was making fun of. Try experimenting with the settings or post something on the Squeeze Ctrl forum. Starting with default zone only, Z2, the zone selection menu is there and I can select another zone. When I select Z1 it turns on and selects the correct input and I can control the volume now independent of Z2. By then selecting zone selection Z2 I can now control volume in Z2 independent of Z1. That all works very nicely. Given both zones are on, if I select one of the zones (e.g Z2) I can then turn it off by selecting it in the top line of the menu where it says Zone 2 on, and it turns that zone off. Again it works well. My only grumble is that when I turn that Zone (in this case Z2) back on by selecting it again in the top line it comes back on but with a much higher volume than either zone is/was being played at and certainly not the volume it was set at before being turned off then on, and certainly not the volume the other zone is set at. It may be something that I have preset elsewhere so will take a look, but that high volume level has varied each time, sometimes 60, sometimes 69... etc. There has been a change in the volume control behaviour in Squeeze-CTRL that I do not like. Previously I was able to swipe album art up or down to control volume, now swiping the album art brings up a slider volume control which I have to swipe left/right. I can not see that any squeeze-CTRL settings have changed. Have you seen this change? I would have attached a log file but when I just checked it the logging was not set to debug for the app, it had reset itself to error.
