And once again, thanks Triode and bpa for all the hard work over the years. I do know things have to move on but like others I offer my sincere thanks to Triode and BPA for having this excellent plug in over such a long time . I am listening now to Cerys on 6music with the new Sounds app and for that I am very thankful . However with out this plug in I would have missed listening to the shows i love on the BBC network . Good luck going forward and I hope you find some new music to warm your soul. The APIs used by BBCiPlayer are dead. BBC pulled the BBCiPlayer Radio Android app for non UK users in Sept and so no reason to keep the feeds going as there was an alternative. So there'll be no more development of those plugins. Some user do not want to register with BBC so I'll keep them available but update to remove the "Listen Again" menus - to avoid confusing users. They are the exact same digital streams - just the API to find them has changed. Even the digital stream in HLS and DASH transports is the same. The 320 vs 339 and VBR vs CBR are due to BBC's inconsistency in documenting their streams. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice a difference in sound quality listening on the new sounds app vs the old iplayer app ? On BBC 6 live stream from sounds app, LMS reports 320 kbps CBR, 48kHz, BBC Sounds. On iplayer app, the stream technical info says 339 kbps VBR, AAC. To my ears, the iplayer app sounds better (of course, only live streams available now). BBCiPlayer plugin "Listen Again" functionality has stopped as BBC stopped the feed. For most users, there is no point in installing BBCiPlayer or BBCiPlayerExtra. To listen to BBC - use the BBC Sounds plugin. It syncs with BBC Sounds app and browsers. The BBC Sounds plugin is available in 3rd Parties plugins tab. Yes - iPlayer Listen Again & iPlayer Extra have been very much a part of my daily listening go-tos for years now & apart from occasional hiccups from changes to BBC streams have rarely had cause to visit these threads. Sad to see it go & many, many thanks to Triode & BPA for the years of getting & keeping it going. There's still a certain amount of functionality left in the 2 apps I read above so they're still loaded for now. I'm still using LMS 7.9.1 (last Vortexbox Fedora 20 distro) still & the new BBC Sounds app seems to be working so far Might be time to zap a newer laptop with the latest VB software so I get the later LMS software through updates VortexBox 2.3 (Fedora Rel 20) on old Celeron laptop with mounted 2TB drive. 2 x Squeezebox Touch, one on Yamaha YSP1000 soundbar with XLS300-PR sub, one on Naim NAIT 3R with B P4 speakers both of 1998 vintage. PC desk using server's built in VB (Linux Squeezlite) player, 2 x Android TV boxes with option to run Squeeze Player, various Android tablets and phones with option to run Squeeze Player. properjob's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I know what you mean about clicks but it's early days only 3 months old. The BBCiPlayer plugin built on AlienBBC and so has had about 15 years to get it right. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support
Morning All Im not sure if this question should be posted here or in the PiCorePlayer thread. Ive recently started listening to Radio 3 more regularly and notice that I dont get the now playing text showing on any of my devices. This in itself isnt a massive issue but it makes me wonder why not when other users certainly report that it is working. Ive read back through this thread and have all the necessary settings switched on in the BBC iPlayer plugin. My Pi4 server runs LMS via pCP 6.1.0 with the following info Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.4 - 1603273368 @ Thu Oct 22 04:21:56 CEST 2020 Hostname: piCoreLMS64 Server IP Address: 192.168.0.16 Server HTTP Port Number: 9000 Operating system: piCore - EN - utf8 Platform Architecture: armv7l-linux Perl Version: 5.28.0 - arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int Audio::Scan: 1.02 IO::Socket::SSL: Nothing Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0) Total Players Recognized: 12 I use a variety of players and have Material Skin as my default option. I dont understand the significance but I see that I have nothing against IO::Socket::SSL which doesnt look right? If I putty into my PI4 and enter the command openssl version it reports OpenSSL 1.1.0l 10 Sep 2019 but that isnt showing in LMS. Could this be the problem regarding the Radio 3 text? Actually, Ive just noticed these errors appearing at the top of the plugins screen so something is definitely amiss. LMS menu handling (at least for older SB players) will "remember" the last program - but the not position withing the program. If you are listening to a BBC podcast, then I think position can be remembered by LMS podcast. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I'm finding that when I listen to an archive programme (i.e. not live radio) via the iPlayer plugin, that the player doesn't remember the point I've listened up to if the session gets interrupted and resumed. For example if I'm listening on a PC and it goes into sleep mode and later wakes up. The iPlayer programme will restart from the beginning rather than wherever I'd got up to. FWIW I'm generally using Squeezlite-X in this context, but I've noticed that same thing listening via a Touch. I'm sure this used to work better than it does, but I suppose I may be imagining that... slartibartfast wrote: > I just leave mine with DASH as first choice. Does HLS have any benefits? > History Lesson. The plugin is constantly chasing BBC and so settings which used to be important may now be less important or even redundant. When Triode implemented the current iteration of BBCiPlayer the audio formats were Adobe Flash and Apple HLS. Then BBC migrated from Adobe Flash to DASH with the aspiration that DASH will be the only one required in future. I implemented DASH and retired Flash. The Extra plugin uses the URLs from the web player which now only offer DASH or occasionally MP3 podcast (very rare, maybe never now, sometimes on very old program they may be in Flash) . This is probably so that BBC can bundle a JS DASH & MP3 player as part of the their player & RadioPlayer popout player. There are NO HLS streams from the Extra plugin - so DASH has to be one of the options in BBCiPlayer "on-Demand" settings. If BBC decides to offer HLS I think plugin will be able to handle it. The AAC audio in HLS and DASH is exactly the same. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I am running LMS 8 (current version) on a RPi 4 under the updated Raspbian OS and cannot get the Xtras plugin (v3.4.0) to play on a SB3 or chromecast devices using Phillipe's Chromecast Bridge. When I click on a program link, I get the metadata, but no audio. Live and archived programming work fine with the iPlayer (v1.6.10). I thought this might be a Http/Https issue per recent discussions in this thread, but LMS Status shows "IO::Socket::SSL: 2.060". The plugins used to have a 7 day schedule feature (it may have been an Extra feature) when the BBC maintained a public APIs to stations, programmes & schedules. However a few years BBC have withdrawn all public API and so reduced Extra to a minimal service with a single API (which is likely to be to be cut as well). All the APIs are now private. Screen scraping would take too much effort to maintain. However, I have been looking at the private API mainly to implement a backup should current plugins fail. The query about personalisation and now schedules made me look again at other parts of the API. IIRC the API used to be inaccessible but since since Personalisation for non UK users was supported by BBC in mid Sept 2020, I think more functions work (or possibly I've got better). Checking the schedule part of new API and the API seems to work. Example Radio 3 11-Oct-2020 https://rms.api.bbc.co.uk/v2/broadcasts/schedules/bbc_radio_three/2020-10-11 Long story short - schedules may be back on the menu. Two caveats: 1. BBC may lock the API once it gets used by "outsiders" 2. Need to find time to do a schedule menu amongst a few other updates bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi, I use the BBCiplayer plugin often, it's very good, especially when used via the material skin. One thing that would be useful would be if the schedule for up-coming programs could be displayed somehow. What I mean by this is currently I can listen live or on catch-up. If I am on catch-up the days programming for a particular station up to the present time is displayed, but is it possible to display the schedule for the rest of the day? Of course I understand this won't be playable, but it would be useful to know as currently I switch between the iplayer plugin (to listen) and the BBC Sounds app for the schedule. I appreciate this is a bit out of scope for the plugin, but thought I'd ask to see if it was possible and if it would be useful to other users. It gives me Latest, Bookmarks and Subscribed Most of my BBC Radio listening is via DAB or LMS ... so they do not know much about me. However, long ago I created an account there and I marked a few programmes as favourites or similar and they now appear under the Subscribed list. The Latest appears to be a list of recent episodes of those Subscribed programmes. They do send me a weekly email with recommendations ... but it might be the same content for everyone. The "Latest" list could be a useful shortcut in LMS - even if I had to maintain the list of subscriptions via BBC web site/Sounds app. I just took a look at the cookies ... there are lots so even copy/paste of cookies would be a pain. It's not a feature I use so I don't have a personal interest/need to implement it. Is it useful or like Netflix lots of rubbish ? It's not a public or simple API (i.e simple single http GET request & response) so it would mean (i) hacking the login method (ii) hacking the recommendation and creating a menu from them somewhere so they can be played. I think it could be implemented like BBCiPlayerExtra, as a separate plugin, it create "iplayer://" URL for recommendations and then uses BBCiPlayer plugin to play them. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Oh, and while were on the topic of the plugin not working unless your OS has robust TLS support, I still think it makes sense for the plugin to prefer HTTPS to HTTP. Most HTTP URLs that the plugin uses now redirect to HTTPS, so trying HTTP first is just going to slow things down a bit, with no improvement in compatibility for users who cant use HTTPS. https://gitlab.com/mavit/BBCiPlayer/-/compare/master...https?w=1 mavit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10203 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

OK. This is strange issue. It has also affected LMS repository fetches and Windows version of LMS. Sites which technically should support TLS request less then TLS 1.3 (e.g. TLS 1.1) seem to have problem with SSL/TLS libraries support which is not quite up to date or the old SSL/TLS libraries have a problem with site which support TLS 1.3. Either way it is a problem outside of LMS and BBCiPlayer plugin. A separate issue but associated issue when this failure occurs - know of two instances where LMS "spins" making the same request about every 0.002 secs and so effectively locks out all other LMS activity. All is solved by updating but for some users this seems to be a drastic solution and cannot understand the failure of backward compatibility. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Sorry, I should have been clearer: Im not having any trouble, personally, I just wanted to chip in to show how one can test what versions of TLS your OpenSSL can use with a particular site. Leave off the -tls1 and itll use whatever it thinks best. bpa wrote: > Could the problem be in openssl 1.0.* (and associated libraries) trying > to access a site which can support TLS 1.3 but which openssl 1.0.* > doesn't know about ? I think you should prepare for an upgrade and as Ronnie said - insitu upgrade Jessie to stretch is a pain - better to make a new image and go to Buster. If you are not forced then you can prepare a separate sdcard with Buster/LMS setup, get it working to your satisfaction knowing that you can still use the Jessie sdcard while you iron out Buster issues.. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Interesting post of a user ( https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?113028-LMS-Suddenly-Stopping ) whose LMS has stopped playing and seems to have the same issue - repeated https failures preventing LMS from playing. > > When I hover over the icon in task bar, it says LMS stopped? Ronnie (aka Man in a van) did sterling work with a series of tests on various version of OS/libraries and although there was https failures - the spinning behaviour did not show up. This make me believe the root of the problem of LMS "spinning" on the http GET failures is somewhere within the Perl supporting support modules and libraries possibly Openssl and not within BBCiPlayer plugin. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

AFAICT Stretch is OpenSSL 1.1.0. OpenSSL comes in various "apt" packages. The relevant ones installed on my buster are libssl-dev libssl1.0-dev libssl1.0.2 libssl1.1 openssl - but this is automatic - i.e. dragged in because of other packages. The Radioplayer error is being logged (i.e. https support is the root cause of the erro and also the repository xml errors) and so you are reproducing the error at the expected 30 secs interval. For some reason it gets out of control on @bins system and doesn't wait 30 secs. I suspect Radioplayer needs/checks for TLS 1.3 which was only supported from OpenSSL 1.1.* onwards and this causes the initial error. The OnAir text is current track/program info for live streams and is retrieved from the RadioPlayer siet as well as a BBC site. Attempted fetches from the RadioPlayer site causes the "error fetching RadioPlayer BBC " message Attempted fetches from BBC site cause the "error fetching BBC segments" The fetches should be retrieved only once per 30 secs even if there is an error. The attempt to get data RadioPlayer is not only failing but in some way - the timing is broken and trigger an immediate retry. While it is possible the https is the underlying cause - it is strange other users do not have this same problem. So it is possible there is another cause but there is a bug to be fixed to prevent the immediate retry of the http request. There is a situation with LMS on Windows where some users have https issues and it is not clear why only a few users get the problem. I do not know the workings of SSL/TLS but the security process relies on stored certificates and I have seen one case where corrupted certificates cause strange issues. So as a matter of course we try to gather as much details of associated SSL & OS software on a users system to find critical packages/modules. Since your issue is a new manifestation - I am interested in knowing what version of Openssl is on your system - just run the command "openssl version" bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
