It also feels to me that the LWP POST fails and I've seen that on my
Windows (Windows...) machine with the packaged installation where SNI is
not disabled with LWP. It is otherwise, but not there. When I run
"manually" LMS under Windows, I don't have that issue because SNI is
disabled for sure. I've tried to set ssl_opts in LWP for the plugin but
it seems that it's an old version that does not support it...

What is your setting for Advanced/Network/Radio Station Timeout ?

If it is 15 or less, increase to say 30 - just to see if it make a

There are no log entries of player.source with the updated LMS.

As a sanity check - can you show the size of all the files in  the
InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Mixcloud directory.

wow, I've manually edited protocol.pm
and the plugin and I am now able to play the stream natively, and i can
skip through the tracks.
Still hadn't had any early stops. but I will keep testing the couple
next days.

I forgot to add the new zip file but I also discovered the reason why
playback was failing for some of you: a few of the mp4 files have their
header at the end and although my changes in LMS take that into account
since 8.1, the use of custom user-agent in mixcloud was creating an
issue. I'm submitted a PR in LMS, have a look when Michael has it
released. *It will apply to 8.2 only at that time*, so do not try with
8.1

I've updated the PR on GitHub and attached a copy of the plugin here. I
think this is enough for now as it solves the mp4 issue and also the
early stop problem by doing a download of whole track in the background
and streaming from there. Funny enough, it seems that dmixcloud gives
you a decent throughput at the beginning and then throttle you down, but
that does not matter.

I think we've been through this already. Look at my earlier post

In the JSON from dlmixcloud are usually 3 URLs. 2 Streamable (HLS/fMP4 &
DASH) and one downloadable (http/MP4). Many site don't like streaming
from downloadable URL and timeout

However, this is maintaining the plugin - maintaing a plugin takes
effort (usually more than initial development) and at present there is
no users of the plugin who is a plugin developer.

I don't think so, the streaming comes directly from Mixcloud dlmixcloud
has nothing to do with that,
The only thing it does (as far as I understand it) is decoding a file it
gets from mixcloud and getting the url out of it.

when looking at the code from the mixcloud for kodi it looks like its
decoding a json file.

I used to use sourceforge as a repository because they had these
statistics but SF was not reliable as a repository (or perhaps it was
partly https related)

investigations and the pull request.

The plug-in is hosted in my GitHub. I picked it up because the original
author made one post and disappeared after that. I try to patch it to
keep it working. I'm in no way a perl developer, and there are many
parts of the code I still don't understand. I do know the code itself is
in quite a bad state. It's closely related to the SoundCloud plug-in,
which is also constantly on the verge of breaking down. Both need a
rewrite to simplify things.
I actually don't use mixcloud (or SoundCloud) that much to warrant
spending a lot of time on it. I'll still try to keep the plug-in working
if it can be done with small fixes, but I doubt I can find the time to
do a complete rewrite. 

The use of dlmixcloud.com is not ideal. But as mixcloud doesn't offer
any public way to stream outside of their website/app it is needed. It
could be possible to handle whatever dlmixcloud is doing natively in the
plug-in, but I have no idea how often this changes, and it might
introduce more breakages if the extract algorithm needs to be updated
constantly. I have thought about using youtube-dl on an AWS lambda/API
gateway. That would simplify things. But there are also some costs
involved with that. And actually I have no idea how many people use the
plug-in, or what hosting of such a service would cost.

Unfortunately not - what I've done there only works if the protocol
handler used is directly http/https. It does not work for plugins that
have their own protocol handler, even if it is a child of http/https.

of cloud-hosted servers that switch off connection that are idle for too

Looking at what is streamed when Mixcloud is playing through a browser,
there are other formats (HLS/fMP4 & DASH) available which may provide
other streaming rather download options for an LMS plugin. So when I get
the playHLS plugin upgraded, I'll probably look at the Mixcloud plugin
as a source of test material but not as maintainer.

Hi Philippe,

thanks for looking in to this, 
I've been using this plugin off and on for some time now (when it
works).
and the early playback stop is something that has come up before.
I don't think the mixcloud model is to download it as a whole before
playback.
if you download the stream with wget, you see a download burst at first
and then the download will be throttled.

as for the early stop, it has come up in this thread earlier, but
without a real solution, maybe you can provide a solution.

8.x (make AAC/MP4 play and seek) but I will not be the maintainer.
AFAIC, it works now and I don't think I'd do more than than. I have
still experienced a few early playback stop and if this is because the
mixcloud model is to download the entire file and then do local playback
instead of streaming, this is way beyond this contribution. That would
be a LMS general problem where we'd have to define a new base protocol
handler I think, above HTTP(S) which would do that. Very different
target.

Thats what I do now except that for direct streaming the requestString
method of the protocol handler is not called unless LMS uses the sing
protocol handler, hence my PR in LMS 8.2

That's one view but I think incomplete.

What is being discussed are issues relating to current mixcloud plugin
and incompatibilties with LMS 8.*. It also highlighted other issues
related to Mixcloud and possibility of better ways to access Mixcloud
services

However it is not clear whether there is an active maintainer/developer
of the mixcloud plugin (no recent contribution to this thread) - so when
the issues are resolved who will implement and maintain the plugin.

I had forgotten that LMS usually claims to be iTunes/4.7.1
In that case it looks like it is probably not a block against LMS.
They might be blocking an old or specific versions of iTunes (if they
check the version number) because they had seen problems in the long
distant past.

Maybe identifying as LMS would be a good thing to do anyway (in the
plugin not necessarily for LMS as a whole).

This issue was highlighted when OP remarked that URLs played when using
ffmpeg to transcode. Not sure what UA ffmpeg uses.

The unobfuscated  test URL I used also work with wget which has a user
agent string of "Wget/1.20.3"  So is Mixcloud agnostic except for iTunes
!!  Perhaps iTunes has a special deal with Mixcloud.

"The audio streams are not available through the Mixcloud API."

I guess the plugin developer should go to ask them about it. I might 
only be waking up the sleeping dogs... I'm not familiar with the plugin, 
thus don't know where it's getting the stream URLs from. But if they 
don't provide an official way to stream, it's probably dumb to ask about 
how to work around that limitation?...

reason that sometimes would only allow streaming to iTunes... so we've 
been doing this for more than a decade.

They might simply have a white list of agents rather than a blacklist, I
dont know but I agree this is a good suggestion to try that route.

If a service provider is explicitly blocking LMS (rather than only
allowing a limited subset of other ones)  it suggests that they really
do not want it to connect.
In that situation, and given that they actively endorse using Sonos
which shows that they are willing to having streaming clients connect, I
suggest someone (Michael?) reaching out to them to discuss gaining
access.

I don't think it's that, I have it disabled on mine and I can play on a
Touch, a Boom and a Squeezelite-esp32 that stream as well as (e.g.) "My

Oh, this sorry I should have mentionned: mixcloud does not like the
User-Agent of LMS, so it needs to be changes to something else. This is
the reason why this https generic link would work on your browser and
not when queried from LMS. To accept them, there should be a URL handler
from mixcloud for https://.mixcloud.com/... where domain is not
www so that we don not try to extract the usable https url from
mixcloud, but simply have a PH that replaces the UA. I'm not sure I'll
do that...

That's weird because I can play that track. Do you have your own key for
mixcloud (I don't)

Successfully installed your latest mod but still no joy playing any
mixcloud streams, I get the following error:

I'm not sure how "insecure HTTPS" is set as I can't see where to
check/uncheck it.

Let me know if you want any log files to assist, and which ones.

The URL I used Tune-in - plays OK outside of LMS and looks like an
acceptable http/MPEG4 file - which is why I am curious why it fails in
LMS when mixcloud URL is not installed. The mixcloud plugin regex grabs
any mixcloud URL so no point testing with Tune-in if plugin is
installed.

As I said I don't use mixcloud so it was a bit of random testing. Some
stream were MP3 so I assume not all mixcloud streams have the same
format and so mixed results are likely.

The half speed playback was happening when I was testing on DAC32.  I
didn't look much further.

The URL in tune in probably did not work well, I've change that a bit as
well. Now, according to what I see, it should not be the download url
that you'd enter there, but more an URL you'd grab from
www.mixcloud.com. It's probably doable to change the regex to accept
any.
Re half-speed, it might be an issue with the fact that MixCloud seems to
use AAC SBR and not all decoder know how to read the header. As a
result, you have the core samplerate returned to the player/LMS and it's
1/2 of speed.

It's still wip but you can use the attached file and unzip it in
c:\ProgramData\squeezeboxserver\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\MixCloud
(erase everything in it at this point). LMS 8.2 is fine, all what is
needed is 8.1.1 or later

I'm happy to test your modifications, but will need a little bit of hand
holding to advise what files to download/install etc. If you can give me
a pointer I'll happily give it a go.

My system is Win10, LMS 8.2.0 - 1617564089, no playmp4, no ffmpeg,
mixcloud 0.4

Am happy to revert to 8.1 if required to test, just let me know which
version.

Did you try the PR on GitHub or the file I posted earlier? Because that
ProtocolHandler.pm was missing a few things so the PR should be used. I
can post here again the correct file.

As a test, I set up a clean install of LMS 8.1.2 nightly with Mixcloud.
Didn't change any default settings. No personal auth id. Some MP4
