I now thing that the original problem with the comma was a red herring.
I've tried chars ()[]#, and they all work in plain text...
so, I've uploaded a new version 0.37.5 to Sourceforge:

Unfortunately the tag submission format is not documented currently so I
am just guessing what they're expecting - in this case I would assume
the brackets are the problem (although I'm sure I specifically tested
brackets).

OK, I think I found the typically undocumented and non-standard format
that the LastFM site is expecting... new version up on Sourceforge.

Are you getting that for all tracks or just some?
(It could be the comma in the track name is causing a problem.)
I hope the breaks in the XML are just because of the logging, you don't
have carriage returns or anything weird in your tags?
James

Since this, he tried to submit that track again and again, regardless
which track i play.
I didn't make any carriage returns to the tracks.

Erland's probably is a problem with the non-ascii characters.
Unfortunately I've just realised that it will get stuck on the failing
track until SlimServer is restarted (normal track play submission will
be unaffected).
I will have to fix this, although I don't know what to do about the
problem
I've uploaded a new version to Sourceforge that will continue when the
tag submission is not accepted, until I find out what the problem
is...

Although there is some trouble with databases sometimes, the last.fm

OK, I agree that the tag submission no longer works. The submission is
accepted by LastFM, but no response is returned.
It seems that the official player (now?) uses a different method to tag
files.
I should be able to move to the new method in a couple of days...
